Revenue Board pays Rs 5 billion as duty drawback to exporters

ISLAMABAD (November 30 2003): The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has paid around Rs 5 billion as duty drawback to the exporters during July-October (2003-2004) whereas Rs 1.787 billion claims were still pending with the customs authorities.

The CBR data revealed that the total number of pending duty drawback claims of exporters were 35414 during July-October current fiscal.

The Collectorate of Customs, Karachi (Exports) topped the list paying Rs 3108 million as duty drawback.

Sources told Business Recorder here on Saturday that the payment of around Rs 5 billion as rebate despite rationalisation of duty drawback regime and drastic reduction in its rates reflects that restructuring has improved the working of the tax machinery.Following is the amount of duty drawback paid to the exporters along with number of pending duty drawback claims during first four months of the current financial year:

Collectorate of Customs, Karachi (Export) paid Rs 3108 million as duty drawback and pending claims were 25690; Collectorate of Customs, Lahore, Rs 221.440 million, 2623; Collectorate of Customs, Sialkot, Rs 596.960 million, 4053; Collectorate of Customs, Hyderabad, Rs 56.619 million, pending claims zero; Collectorate of Customs, Quetta, Rs 5.440 million, 638; Collectorate of Customs, Multan, Rs 41.179 million, 73; Collectorate of Customs, Faisalabad, Rs 623.828 million, 1252; Collectorate of Customs, Rawalpindi, Rs 48.720 million, 741, while Collectorate of Customs, Peshawar paid Rs 243.660 million as duty drawback and pending claims were 344.
