ISLAMABAD (December 13 2003): Facilitating the business community, the Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has said that taxpayers who already filed the sales tax return for the tax period November, 2003, on the old form need not file the return again using the new form.
According to CBR, the last date of filing sales tax return for November 2003 on the revised form is December 15, 2003.
The department had recently issued SRO 1090(I)/2003 of December 6, 2003 notifying the revised format of the return. From now onwards, monthly sales tax return is to be filed on the revised form.
The Sales Tax Return cum Payment Challan for the tax period November 2003 is to be filed on or before December 15, 2003, using the revised format.
The CBR has said that the taxpayers are advised to file the return in the new format for November, 2003. However, it is clarified that any taxpayer who has already filed the return for the tax period November, 2003 in the old form, do not need to file the return in the new format.
Moreover, if any taxpayer for any reason cannot obtain and file the return in the new format, he may file the return by the due date in the old format for the tax period November, 2003.
The CBR would not initiate any penal action for filing of return in the old format for November, 2003 only. However, for the tax period December, 2003 onward, the Monthly Sales Tax Return is to be filed in the new format, without exception.
