ISLAMABAD (November 25 2002) : The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has returned Wapda's two-part tariff petition, asking it that applications should be filed by the distribution companies (Discos), sources told Business Recorder.
They said that the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) had submitted a two-part tariff petition to Nepra a few days back, but the regulator did not entertain it, observing that when Wapda has been unbundled into generation and distribution companies, the petition should be filed by the concerned power distribution companies individually.
Sources said the Secretary Water and Power and Wapda chairman Zulfiqar Ali Khan would brief the newly appointed Minister for Water and Power, Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, on Monday regarding functioning of Wapda, water sector projects launched by the utility and the financial problems being faced by the utility due to non-payment of arrears by the public sector including Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (Fata).
Sources said that Sherpao would also be briefed about the high cost of electricity in Pakistan as compared to other neighbouring countries.
Sources said that Wapda has also planned to give a presentation to the Minister about the state of affairs next week.
