For the second year in a row, Ernst & Young ranked No. 7 out of the more than 600 companies that were considered for the annual award and ranked highest among Big Four professional services firms. Deloitte & Touche, which ranked in the ninth spot last year, moved up a notch to the No. 8 spot.
Companies were evaluated on statistical information such as their tuition reimbursement plans, training budgets, average training hours per employee and training's percentage of payroll.
Training magazine said this year's honorees are successfully “tracking and concretely tying training initiatives to lasting and important business metrics such as revenue, market share, quality, customer service and loyalty, retention, turnover, production/output and innovation/product development — all of which are key differentiators for any company hoping to have a leg up on the competition when the economy inevitably turns around.”
Ernst & Young said part of its success is through its education enterprises — both instructor-led and computer-enabled — in addition to mentoring, counseling and on-the-job experience. According to the firm, over 80 percent of its formal learning is still completed through the classroom.
Deloitte & Touche is honored for its Ellen Gabriel Fellows Program for highly talented senior managers, in addition to other development programs. Training magazine also cited the firm's Innovation Web Zone site, a resource that collects and shares employees' ideas for cutting costs, and improving efficiencies.
