Members of the Professional Auditors Business Group, a Dubai-based business group formed last month, elected their representative committee at Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Saturday.
The election was chaired by Mr Ahmed Al Banna, Deputy Director General of DCCI, and also attended by Fahad Al Gergawi, the Chamber's Head of Exhibitions and Conferences.
Around 70 members chose 11 committee representatives by secret ballot from a list of 20 nominees submitted following the group's first meeting in February.
Elected to sit on the committee are: Dr Khalid Maniar, Managing Partner of AGN MAK Chartered Certified Accountants; Graham Martins, Director of Pannell Kerr Forster; Sajjad Haider, Senior Partner at Sajjad Haider & Co.; Russi J. Patel, Managing Partner of BDO Patel & Saleh; Ahmed Al Abdouli, Partner of GAAC; Amir Ali Gargawi, owner of Al Gargawi C & S; Abbas Ali Mirza, Partner of Deloitte & Touche; Ibrahim Abul Malik Mohammed, Partner of Malik & Marouk Co.; Ali Issa, Partner of Ernst & Young; Mahendra K Asher, Senior Partner of Mahendra Asher & Co.; and Fiona Nicholas, Partner at Price Waterhouse Coopers.
Mo'aaz Mohamed Hasanain, Managing Partner of Mo'aaz Mohamed Chartered Accountants, and Safiya Haji Akbar Mohammad, Partner of Morisson Menon Chartered Accountants, were chosen as reserve committee members.
Mr Ali Issa of Ernst & Young, one of the committee's 11 members, said that a priority of the group should be to formalise a standards framework for the auditors industry. “The support of the Chamber and the commitment of members is a positive sign,” he said.
Commenting on the elections, Ahmed Al Banna, DCCI Deputy Director General, said: “The committee will be an important source of industry feedback for the Chamber, a platform to express the views and aspirations of members, and an opportunity to draw up a business plan for the group.”
Mr Al Banna added that the newly elected committee would meet shortly to appoint a chairman, vice-chairman and general secretary, and meet at least once a month.
