Punjab Accountant-General Pervez Ahmad Qureshi has said that newly introduced online system for accounting and auditing; the Project for Improvement of Financial Reporting and Auditing (PIFRA) would start functioning this year.
He said PIFRA would start functioning in Lahore and Faisalabad districts as well as the Punjab Finance Department. Later, the record of government employees regarding their salaries, general provident (GP) funds, pensions and developing budget will be compiled in this system. Later In the next financial year the system would start functioning in Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Multan, Muzaffargarh, Sheikhupura, Rahim Yar Khan, Sialkot, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Attock, Jehlam, Gujrat, Jhang, Dera Ghazi Khan, Kasur and Sahiwal. In 2005 that system would be starting in Hafiz Abad, Mandi Bahaudin, Mianwali, Kushab, Bakkar, Layyah, Tobba Take Singh, Lodhran, Pakpattan, Khanaewal, Narowal, Rajanpur and Okara.
The Deputy Director of PIFRA, Tanveer Mohsin, said the training of account officers, assistant account officers, senior auditors and junior auditors has already started. In this regard forty-one officials from the Accountant General Office and 17 officials from the District Accounts Committee have been trained. He said that the training for the new system would also be given to more than 17,000 Drawing and Disbursing Officers.
