The all-India continuing professional education (CPE) conference of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) was inaugurated by the Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Parrikar in Calangute today.
The three-day conference being attended by 625 delegates and students would discuss and deliberate on CARO’ 2003, accounting standards and service tax.
Addressing a press-conference prior to the inaugural function, the ICAI president, Mr Sunil Goyal informed that the topics to be covered “are the need of the hour for chartered accountants currently in the profession and are pre-requisite in the their practice and specialisation.”
He further informed that the ICAI has made 15 hours of CPE credit per year mandatory for all members till the end of the year before moving to 20 hours CPE requirements. “ICAI, established in 1949 had its headquarters in New Delhi and 100 branches spread across the country,” he said.
When queried, Mr Goyal informed that the Goa branch was an active unit adding that ICAI had already an operational office in Dubai. “ICAI also has plans of starting training facilities outside the state,” he informed.
Speaking about the students enrolled for the CA course, the conference convenor, Ms Preeti Mahatme stated that there were 400 students who were currently doing the course. “The pass percentage in the state was quite good,” she said.
Others present on the occasion included the chairman, Goa branch, ICAI, Mr J B Sardessai, CPE chairman, Mr G Ramaswamy, conference director, Mr Uttam Agarwal and ICAI member, Mr Nihar Jambusaria.
