LONDON (January 01 2003) : As stock markets ground to the end of another troubled year on Tuesday, Pakistan's stood out as the world's best performer, its key index more than doubling as a crackdown on unofficial banking channels pushed funds into the market.
Frankfurt's Xetra DAX was the world's worst performing major index with a 44.96 percent fall, as Germany's sluggish economy, poor corporate earnings and banking system worries combined with fears of a possible US war with Iraq to punch out investors.
A snapshot of 2002 index percentage performance taken at 1200 GMT on December 31, with several hours of trade left in some European markets and a half day of trading set for US markets.
