ISLAMABAD (October 26 2003): The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has decided to focus on capacity building and training of auditors/senior auditors for creating better understanding of taxpayers' problems.
The CBR is also actively working to revise the audit guidelines/ modules to ensure that result-oriented audit is conducted without asking for unnecessary documents from the taxpayers.
In a recent collectors' conference the new audit system, launched on pilot basis at Customs House, Karachi, was discussed threadbare to make it taxpayer-friendly.
Sources told Business Recorder here on Saturday that the auditor's role is key to direct interaction with taxpayers but none of the previous authorities had paid attention to capacity building of auditors.
Now, the tax authorities have consulted CBR Member Human Resource Management (HRM) Zafar Aziz Osmani to devise a comprehensive strategy for capacity building of sales tax auditors as well as senior auditors.
The training and pragmatic shift in the thinking of auditors could be instrumental in attracting taxpayers towards voluntary compliance, increasing revenue collection.
Sources said that HRM department would develop the strategy to train auditors on the recommendations of sales tax department.
