KARACHI: Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has promoted the cost accountants, senior auditors and auditors, presently working in different departments of the CBR, to the rank of officers of Sales Tax department. Sources in the Central Board of Revenue (CBR) say that the en masse promotion of already trained manpower of the CBR would help in easing the acute shortage of manpower at almost all Sales Tax Collectorates.
The sources say these officers are already well versed with the administrative and legal affairs of the Sales Tax department and they would help in both combing the new sales tax payees and settling the outstanding cases.
Earlier, Ministry of Finance granted Sales Tax exemption to promotional samples and brochures of firms that will participate in the second Turkish Export Product Fair, which is scheduled to be held at Karachi from October 8 to 11, 2003.
However, the government has imposed four conditions for granting the sales tax exemption, which are (1) the goods shall be in non-commercial quantity, (2) the brochures and promotional samples shall clearly reflect their nature in print or embossment, (3) the goods shall exclusively be used for the purpose for which they are being imported and the same shall not be sold or otherwise disposed of, and (4) in case of non-compliance with any one of the above conditions, sales tax, leviable at the time of clearance of goods from Customs, shall be charged in addition to penal action under the law.
