Dear shani_101

There are many universities and colleges and their programs. I don't think I can suggest any specific one to you. You would have to search yourself as per your own likeness, fees affordability, city of residence, length etc etc which would suit you.

You may do college diploma or degree from any College/Univesity. Or you may complete leftover courses of a degree after evaluation of your Pakistani BCom degree. Later, you may go for any accounting designation.

Regards

Hello Toronto boy,

First of all well done! U r doing an awsum job here.

I Read all the posts n knew many things before but all ur posts helped me to confirm my understanding.

I would like to let u knw abt my current education status n then wld appreciate ur reply to my specific query.

I have passed 9 out of 14 ACCA exams and have a 30 months experience of work at A. F. Ferguson & Co. (a member firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers).I am doin CA from Institute of Chartered accountants of Pakistan (ICAP) as well and i am through CA intermediate and preparing for its final exams.

Presently, I am working as a Semi Senior in the ‘Risk Advisory Services’ group of A. F. Ferguson & Co. (a member firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers). I have also worked in the ‘Assurance and Business Advisory Services’ group of the firm.

Working in this organisation for almost three years, I got an opportunity of being involved in statutory audits and Risk advisory assignments at various clients.

Now I am pursuing to become a Chartered Accountant of Ontario, Canada on the basis of my ACCA qualification and its membership which I expect to gain in the mid of the year 2010.Along with this, I have also opted for BSc (Hons) in Applied Accounting degree to be awarded by Oxford Brookes University Business School. On successful completion of all nine Fundamental level papers of ACCA I will be gaining this degree in the mid of the year 2010.

Now based on all this i have applied to PwC, EY, KPMG and Delloite Canada for a job as a student to pursue CA designation. Their application deadline is September 2009 for jobs starting in September 2010.

As i mentioned earlier i expect to get the degree and ACCA membership latest by August 2010, u think i did right by applying now as it would safe my time?

I know it all depends on my luck and u r not someone sitting in HR of big four lol but just wanted some advice from a senior like U working their regarding this.

Moreover kindly let me know about sum other stuff which i can do from here in Pakistan to support my employer in calling me like Ielts or sumthin like that...

Your reply will help me further in planning about my future so thanks in anticipation.

Regards.

From CICA website

2)Members of Non-Recognized Accounting Bodies

The International Qualifications Appraisal Board (IQAB) has determined that programs offered by non-recognized accounting bodies are not substantially equivalent to the qualification program offered by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario.

However, all members of the non-recognized accounting bodies are granted exemption from

* the university degree requirement, if a degree is not held;

* 48 credit hours (16 courses) of the 51credit hours (17 courses) of prescribed university degree-credit courses (exemption from the three credit-hour, one course, requirement in Canadian business law is not automatically granted to such applicants); and

* the 5 day Staff Training Program.

The Institutes Applications Committee may, following assessment of your previous education, professional qualifications and accounting experience, grant

* additional exemption from any of the other education or examination requirements of the Institute, except for the Uniform Evaluation (UFE); and/or

* exemption from or reduction of the practical experience requirements of the Institute.

Such additional exemptions may include one or more of the following

* some or all of the practical experience requirements;
* the three credit-hour requirement in Canadian business law;
* the Core-Knowledge Examination (CKE);
* the School of Accountancy.

However, exemptions granted would not include exemption from the Uniform Evaluation (UFE), the Institutes final examination for qualification for admission to membership.

The Non-Recognized Accounting Bodies are

The Institutes of Chartered Accountants of

* India
* Pakistan
* Sri Lanka
* Zimbabwe

The Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants

The Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (United Kingdom, ACCA)

US state boards of accountancy that have not adopted the 150 hour education requirement or who require Canadian CAs to write the Uniform CPA Examination as a condition of membership.

Dear CrEaTiVe86

Most improtant question is about your legal status in Canada i.e. are you a Canadian citizen or permanent resident (the people who come here on immigration visa)? As far as my understanding is, articleship training in Canada in CICA ATOs is treated as "job" here for which only citizens or permanent residents are eligible. Though fulltime students (of universities/colleges) on student visa can legally do part time jobs, but most likely ATOs neither hire student visa holders nor arrange for work visa for training contracts, if someone is directly coming from outside Canada, like you are planning. If they do so then I don't know. One possibility could be for those students who come here first for higher studies, complete their degree here, and then get hired from any ATO which would have to apply for work visa of that applicant.

By the way, don't be discouraged by above para. Plan your life according to your goals and work for that. It gonna take some time but you would be successful.

Hi Mr. Toronto boy I want to ask that if one is an ICAEW member and has completed his practical experience requirement from a BIG 4 in Pakistan or UAE, will his public practice experience be recognized by CICA? Will he be able to become a CICA member by just giving the reciprocity exams or he will still have to work in CICA's ATE?

Best Regards

- Toronto_Boy - 09-23-2009

Dear talhaaz

In my understanding, most likely such member of ICAEW from Pakistan or UAE would have to complete at-least reduced experience (if not full length) in CICA ATOs in addition to reciprocity exam.

You may check with CICA directly through e-mail.

Dear Toronto_Boy,

i'm an ACCA student and have just completed the whole fundamental level, besides applied for ICAEW exemptions at which i'm getting 8 papers exemptions. Now i want to apply for canadian immigration on such basis and also want to know whether Professional Audit firms there hires part qualified professionals like me.

Currently i'm working in Fergusons Associates management consultants(pvt)ltd(fromerly owned by ferguson)as trainee.

- Toronto_Boy - 09-24-2009

Dear hmza

Though competition is much, but firms may hire anyone they like. So, you may try your luck.

I can't say anything regarding immigration visa on basis of part qualification. Please check with any consultant.

Regards
