I registered with ICAP as a PFC in August 2003, I dont know what batch it is...
In my opinion Riaz Ahmed & Co. is at No. 5, if it would have an international affiliation it may take the No. 4 position(on Pakistan basis)...

- Schuaeb - 07-14-2006

Means batch six or so, so it means you have done pretty well.

So, atleast at one point thier is an agreement, however, in Lahore Riaz Ahmed's students claim to be at No. 5, on the basis of much more work and many times larger trainees number.

- maani - 07-15-2006

Schuaeb, finally I have joined MYASCO(Deloitte) Lahore...one of the Big4...

- Schuaeb - 07-16-2006

Hmm, thats good.

Now my questions never to be taken personal just for the sake of my knowledge.

When we talk about Lahore should n't we use Big3 instead of Big4?
All the students I know of Riaz Ahmad are totally convinced that Riaz Ahmad is at No 4 in Lahore now a days. Myasco Lahore has nothing except its association with Deloitte.

Look at the quoted post, what I have said earlier, but the fact that they are not a member of any International Firm will affect a "student's" future in context of international prospect...
I have the opportunity to join Riaz Ahmed & Co., BDO Ebrahim & Co. and S.M Masood & Co. but comparatively MYASCO bears an International Big 4 tag...

And why we should talk about Big 3 in Lahore instead of Big 4?

- Schuaeb - 07-19-2006

Well my point just is there is a big difference in the no. of trainees in these two firms. Now, how do you explain this.

Who says better association means a better firm?

Big3 is what most of people use instead of Big4 here, these people include management of Big3 also.

Nothing here is with the slightest of attention to prove you wrong.

- maani - 07-19-2006

Why internationally its alwayz about Big 4, why at that level Big 4 is used instead of Big 3...
No. of trainees is again only a one method of comparison, that is yourz in this case, comparing Accountancy Firms on the basis of their International membership is a much more better way...

- mustafakarim - 07-22-2006

you can join firm by their SBP ranking
http//www.sbp.org.pk/bsd/2006/Annex-CL4.pdf
you can also join firm by Number of FCAs working in CA firms

this thread will help you

Maani I restrained myself from writing on this thread, because I did not want yet another confrontation to be started. (Just kidding)

Now when you have joined MYASCO, your opinion may become a bit biased. Big3 is a better classification in Pakistan context, and it's never necessary we use the same as being internationally used.

The question is Big2 or Big5 or Big160 could also be used. The reason for big3 is obvious, and I don't think I need to explain.

If comparing Accountancy Firms on the basis of their International membership is a better way then what about BDO, Syed Hussain, Fazal Mehmood, in this case they got to be placed amongst top 7 or 8.

It's not the number of students or association; a better firm is to be decided on the basis of magnitude and diversity of work. Now, what I have heard there are some 100 or 125 students in Riaz Ahmed and not even 50 in MYASCO. What it depicts is Riaz Ahmed has got reasonably more amount of work.

Now, please don't take anything personal, I don't know the reasons but still my vote is for MYASCO. What I said was just the opinion of some friends at Riaz Ahmed

- maani - 07-29-2006

Is No. of students the only criteria to select a firm?...no other firms are sending their trainees abroad on international clients, but DTT is the one in Pakistan, their are alot of other things which I considered before joining DTT...will tell you when the time comes and when you will be in a position to understand what difference Big4 tag can make...

- Pracs - 07-29-2006

Maani, I think you have made the right decision, if the choice was between DTT and Riaz Ahmed. By the time you qualify DTT will have changed quite a lot.

Btw, almost all firms in Pakistan are now sending trainees abroad for secondment,. I persoanlly know about people going on secondmens from AFF/PwC and E&Y and KPMG and DTT.. so all of the Big4 do this now.

- Schuaeb - 07-30-2006

Maani, you took this personal, I agree with you and pracs. MYASCO is the better choice when compared with Riaz Ahmed, this is my personal experience. And, Pracs is right MYASCO at the end of your articles may be a different story.

But No. of students is among the best criterions to compare a firm.

- maani - 07-31-2006

I didn't take it personal, even I am not interested in proving that what is the standing of my firm...but I will prove it sooner that what is my standing...

- Schuaeb - 08-02-2006

Maani, no idea, what you tried to say?

After this last posts of yours no more posts on this thread by me, I, also wont get paid for proving anything
