... True that CAs have the unfair monopoly.

UNFAIR MONOPOLY......... ICAP is in existence since 1961 and ICMAP since 1969...... just a difference of 8 years...... its been around 35+ years and if ICMAP is still crying Monopoly, then their professional competence is indeed questionable...... Are 35 years too little for them to prove themselves Capable to break the so called Monopoly of ICAP?

And the 'sifarish' accusation by Mr. Shahzad....... My batchmates and myself are employed by organisations which are not the audit clients of our firm and none of the partners have ever provided us with his sifarish. So far, I have changed 2 jobs in my short tenor, Alhumdillilah, with HIS will and my own competence, fair and square.

Here's more for You Know Whom (for CA guys, no points for guessing
who...... for others.....dahhhh!!!!)

=========================================

A True Story This happened at the recent accountants conference jointly organized by ICAP and ICMAP

Three CAs and three ACMAs are traveling by train to a conference. At the station, the three ACMAs each buy tickets and watch as the three CAs buy only a single ticket.
"How are three people going to travel on only one ticket?" asks an ACMA.
"Watch and you'll see," answers one CA.
They all board the train. The ACMAs take their respective seats but all three CAs cram into a restroom and close the door behind them.
Shortly after the train has departed, the conductor comes around collecting tickets. He knocks on the restroom door and says, "Ticket, please."
The door opens just a crack and a single arm emerges with a ticket in hand. The conductor takes it and moves on.
The ACMAs saw this and agreed it was quite a clever idea. So after the conference, the ACMAs decide to copy the CAs on the return trip and save some money (being clever with money, and all that).
When they get to the station, they buy a single ticket for the return trip. To their astonishment, the CAs don't buy a ticket at all.
"How are you going to travel without a ticket?" says one perplexed ACMA.
"Watch and you'll see," answers one CA.
When they board the train the three ACMAs cram into a restroom and the three CAs cram into another one nearby. The train departs. Shortly afterward, one of the CAs leaves his restroom and walks over to the restroom where the ACMAs are hiding. He knocks on the door and says, "Ticket, please."

**************

Reaching the end of a job interview, the Human Resources Person asked a young management accountant who was fresh out of ICMAP, "What starting salary were you thinking about?"
The Accountant said, "In the neighborhood of Rs 25,000 a month, depending on the benefits package."
The interviewer said, "Well, what would you say to a package of 5 weeks vacation, full medical and dental, Company Retirement Fund to 50% of salary, Executive Share Option Scheme, Profit Related Pay and a company car leased every 2 years - say, a 5 series BMW?"
The ACMA sat up straight and said, "Wow! Are you kidding?"
The interviewer replied, "Yeah, but you started it."

Here is one more

Well ACMAs says that their studies are more tougher than CAs and they have better knowledge than CAs; below is a classic example of their knowledge............... -)

===============================================

A Chartered Accountant and a Cost Accountant are seated next to each other on a flight from Karachi to Islamabad. The ACMA asks CA if he would like to play a game. The CA, who's tired (from work) and just wants to take a nap, politely declines and rolls over to the window to catch a few winks. The ACMA persists and says the game is easy and a lot of fun. He explains, "I ask you a question, and if you don't know the answer, you pay me 500, and vice versa." Again, the CA declines and tries to get some sleep. The ACMA, now agitated, says, "Okay, if you don't know the answer you pay me 500, and if I don't know the answer, I will pay you 5000." This catches the CA's attention; and figuring there will be no end to this torment unless he plays, he agrees to the game.

The ACMA asks the first question "What's the distance from the earth to the moon?" The CA doesn't say a word, reaches into his wallet, pulls out a 500 bill, and hands it to the ACMA. "Okay," says the ACMA, "it's your turn."

He asks the ACMA, "What goes up a hill with three legs but comes down with four legs?"

The ACMA, puzzled, takes out his laptop computer and searches all his references--no answer. He taps into the air phone with his modem and searches the Net and the Library--no answer. Frustrated, he sends e-mails to all his friends and coworkers, to no avail. After an hour, he wakes the CA and hands him 5000.

The CA says "Thank you" and turns back to get some more sleep.

The ACMA, who is more than a little miffed, wakes the CA and asks, "Well, what's the answer?"

Without a word, the CA reaches into his wallet, hands the ACMA 500, and goes back to sleep.

Shehzad,

Yaar leave Mr Bowman alone and please get your eye-sight checked. I believe he sent the email at 091343 AM rather than 9.30 PM, as you taunted.

Hey Shahzad..... coming to the topic put up by Ms. Faiza
(in her own words........cud anyone pls compare CA and CMA for me, for example which career pays more and the job positions offered if ure a CA or a CMA etc...)

Here is a Job Opportunity posted not by some 'Seth' but a MNC

===============================
A multinational pharmaceutical company having its
operations in the central asian states requires the
services of Assistant Accountant on urgent basis.
Ideal candidate should meet the following criteria

a) Good analytical skills
b) Command over English (both written and oral)
c) Qualification (part qualified CA,ACCA,ICMA
or experienced B.Com)
d) Having good command over MS-Office
(specially Word, Excel and Outlook express)

The salary package ranges from 15-20K, depending on
the experience, competency and qualifications of the
candidate.

Please send your CV to the following email address
[email protected]
====================================

Now my dear, if you will look at requirement C, you will perhaps notice that ICAP and partners of the audit firm has influenced that MNC to treat ACMA equal to some experienced B-Com or part qualified CA. very bad of ICAP, I must say....

Ms. Faiza also needed to know the compensation packages and designation offered and I presume, now she knows the truth of ACMA.

And guess what, at firms they also teach you that thing.....
but how could you guess? Have you ever been in any professional environment???

- shehzad - 03-12-2004

Comprehend this Pal

Professionalism is everything but not atleast netsurfing as the first chore in an office .

Work ethic ? ? ?

Hey Shehzad why are you so touchy about the CMA profession ???? you talk against the CAs like a frustrated person. We the CA guys respect the ACMAs as professional, but professional jealousy is still there and thats why some of the CA students call ACMAs as associate of clerk and mang. accountants. which is proved by you by taunting mr bowman, as he, being CA, has developed a system in his office that he has nothing to do in his office, he doesnt take worries about the work, as that will be done automatically in a smooth manner, kidding, dont take it serious yaar, and dont get personal,
but you will have to accept the fact that CAs are more professionally sound than CAs, and your are trying to prove CMAs as substitute of CAs which is not justified. CMAs carry their own worth and value which is not comparable with that of CAs.
and I agree with the bowman regarding the Advt. being published in the newspapers, you will never see the qualified CA is invited to apply for job along with the ACMAs. however you will see lot of ads like "partly qualified CA, with ACMAs, MBAs, BCom. etc" so start comparing with MBAs from IBA, LUMs etc. but never try to compare it with CAs, its an honest advise otherwise you will find nothing but the increasing frustration.

SMR

- shehzad - 03-13-2004

Gracious for the compliment .

" U will never see a CA is asked to apply .alongwith a CMA ....."

if u meant that ...............

Go through some newspaper pls .

And why dya think that something makes a CA better than a CMA ?

Articleship ? yes ....

Study ? NO WAY .......

And lastly . pls, do read some newspaper ads .

Pls Stop hoi polloi and be reasonable .

- smraza - 03-14-2004

if both are asked to apply then CA will be offered say 50,000 and CMA will be offered 15,000 to 20,000, its a matter of fact dear, when u will start your professional life then u will come to know about these facts. take care.

Hehehe….. comeon pal…. Its wasn’t our fault if you made a bad career move and decided for ACMA….. many people are afraid to step into practical life as early as after their A-levels or F.Sc or even graduation and wants to stay in the safety confines of college life as long as possible ….. though I don’t understand that but I totally respect your safe approach!!!!!

Personally I do appreciate the ACMAs…. They compile the data into information for me on which I and other management personals take decisions…. And while they compile the work, I uses the office computer to look for better employment opportunities, improve my resume and of course reply on this discussion board. And by doing that I am actually helping them to get the exposure (which an article student gains in his first 6 months).

A nice advice given by XBRL…..pursue some other qualification as well.

Good luck……

p.s. Can you comment on why ICMAP officially sends Introductory and Persuasive letters to mention and consider ICMAP Qualification? As pointed out by XBRL and is evident on their website.
