In London, starting base salaries for fresh grads (no exemptions) is around £20k - £25k per annum. For qualified it's between £45k - £55k (depending upon your specialisation).

In Pakistan, some qualified are getting in excess of Rs. 100k per month, whereas others are on around Rs. 70k per month.

In Pakistan, only Karachi University offers a programme in Actuarial Science, but this bachelors prog. doesn't allow you to get any exemption (at present) with any professional actuarial body, such as Institute of Actuaries etc. And, I don't know the details regarding fees etc.

In UK, there are about 4-5 institutions who offers BSc. Actuarial Science programme including, LSE, City, Kent, Heriot-Watt and Souhampton. For details to their programmes, please visit respective school's website.

I'm sure you know already that having done a BSc. in Actuarial Science doesn't qualify you as a Fellow. You are still a student actuary. More on this can be found by searching this forum old threads.

KU has Rs.20,000 fee per semester and eight semster programme (4year)

Pay increases with respect to the passing of papers, one can earn atleast 20k after passing 4 papers of SOA

after 10 years scope of actuary will none or less remain same as it is today.

Dear Friends,

I have noticed that there is considerable amount of interest among the students about actuarial sciences, and I was impressed to see that many of you have a lot of information about the "there and thereabouts" of the profession. However, after reading this discussion, I realised that there is still insufficient (only slightly insufficient) knowledge among the Pakistani students to allow the profession to really prosper in our country! (I do admit that I might be wrong in stating that!)

I am myself an Actuarial Student, and I seriously feel that many people are stepping into the profession because of the money that they see in it, WHICH IS TRULY AN ALARMING SITUATION!

The profession is indeed very demanding as I see it, and you really have to work hard to reach any status! And believe me, there isnt any profession where you wont get paid for the hard work that you put in! BESIDES, THERE IS ALWAYS A VACCANCY FOR THE TOPMOST!

Anyway..

My E-mail address is [email protected] . If u need any further advice, or assisstance, then I will be most eager to help you out!

If anyone seeks to meet me, then you can take appointment from me in my office! My office team is also one of those, who are most willing to help anyone out!

Take care all!

Allah Hafiz!
(and best of luck to the future actuaries!)

Dear Friends,

I got a few mails ever since I introduced myself on this forum. Actually one student asked me a very interesting question. He asked me why am I not helping students on this forum, and why am I trying to do this on an individual level!

I guess, not too many of you will be too concerned about it, but I would like to clear this thing up! And secondly, I would also want all of you to think about what I am doing.

The thing is that the CPC (code of professional conduct) of any professional body is a very strong withstanding, and every institution follows it very religiously! Now I am not too sure if ANY actuarial body, will allow other members of the body to disclose, distribute or disseminate any information about it’s functions etc, EXCEPT FOR THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN SPECIFICALLY APPOINTED FOR THE TASK! This may even include any sort of counseling etc. at the level of any forum!

Since I am not aware if these restrictions are (or aren’t) in force within any specific actuarial body that may be discussed here, therefore, I really hesitate to disclose any information at the level of a “forum”.

Secondly, I feel that it is easier for me to help anyone out at individual level, because this ensures direct personal contact!

Anyway, I would advise all of you to be careful as well! And should anyone feel that he, or she needs any assistance at any level, then please do not hesitate to ask me!

Take care all!

Allah Hafiz.

Come on now!

Dont tell me that discussing about an acturial body, its functions, procedure of examinations etc. on a public forum is prohibited.

Just visit the SOA site which is open to every body.........every thing about them, their work, examinations procedures, jobs, past papers, everything... is given there. If SOA wanted to keep these things private, then only a list of email address and contact numbers would have been given on their site.

So you can discuss or give counselling without any tension .

Atleast tell the status of your papers, are you an ASA or not.

It is certainly not true. No profession would like the image of what actuaries had in the past. Therefore, you can disclose information about the profession if you have any.

Only thing that you can't disclose is the policy about not disclosing your salaries which some organisation adopt - just because they adopt discremination among their colleagues.

Secondly, you can't disclose any information about your firm's clients etc.

All other information which is general in nature can be disclosed and you wouldn't be breaching any CPC.
