google always showed this site in top ten whenever i searched "ca" so i decided to give it a spin and found it really helpins so if you CAs in the making have some spare time then please answer the follwing questions
1 . MBA , ACCA or CA
2. when can i get admission (im givin my final a levels papers in nov 04)
3.TSA or AL Hamd
4. The time/durantion for modules A to d

do i have to do some other course before acc (ive heard somthn abt cat)
and how many years will acca take.

I presume u have a bachelors (that makes you elgibble to sit for ACCA exams)...
Just wanted to make a correction to SAM's exemption for ACCAs.
ACCAs (or for that matter any other CA) DO not have any exemptions in CPA... you do gain one paper exemption if you are a CIA.
However, ACCA does enjoy a number of exemptions (to a max. extent)in verious CA's of UK, Australia etc.

As long as you have 2 A'Level passes and 3 O'Level subjects with A - C grades you don't need CAT. See the ACCA website for more details.

thanks all for your help .
i got a pretty decent result in o levels (2 As 6 Bs) and have 2 As in alevels (will be taking final exams this nov) so can i start acca immediately after my exams i.e. november or do i have to wait for something or do another course ?
and if i can start immediately then which university/institute should i choose . im in karachi.

and how many hours are students doing ca or acca are expected to study ?

salamz,
since nobody is speaking in favor of CA here, i thought that in the view of public interest following things should be mentioned ( plz correct me if i state anything wrong)

1. An ACCA student cannot get any exemption from ICAP unless he/she completes ACCA in full( all papers).
2. The exemptions he gets are for (Foundation + Intermediate), if he/she completes ACCA. He/She has to take module E and F as well do 3 years articleship in an audit firm ( this articleship can start only when he/she completes ACCA(in full).
3. After ACCA he/she will not be able to get any bachelors/masters degree from any top ranking Pakistani university(including IBA)
4. In Pakistan people in general have very low opinion of ACCAs.

It was due to aforementioned reasons that i myself did not choose ACCA and opted for CA. However if somebody can do ACCA and get out of PAksistan, then surely ACCA is the ideal qualification for him.
On the otherhand , a person like me who can only dream of going abroad has to conted with this Desi qualification i.e CA.
May God help everybody in getting whatever he/she wants to get.

So many replies but the real question still unanswered
After A-levels exams(i will presume that subjects are Maths and Accounting) go to TSA, Al-Hamd or CAMS in late December (but not after February). They will admit you for both CA or ACCA for the attempt of May, 2005.
A-levels results come out in February so there is no problem for ACCA registration.
In my opinion go for CA because whatever you do, in the end the final target is CA.
From where are you doing A-levels and from where did you did O-levels.

that was an immense help.
now ill just like to confirm few facts that ive picked up from all your replies.
1 if i start ca now (and dont flunk at anything)ill be done in 6 years.
2 if i do both acca and ca, it will still take 6 years?
3 do ca if youre staying here and acca if youre going abroad . so.... what if i do ca and go abroad ? will it aleast be equal with acca?

a little while ago a realtive told me NOT to do ca. he said that icap dosent pass you in the exams untill you give them something (read rishwat). is that true ?
and what about mba ? a friend said that it also value abroad and in pakistan

Dude, CA is one of the highest paid professions in Pakistan. Do you honestly think they need "rishwat". Maybe a letter from somebody "high up" would be a better option.
Besides I don't think that this is truly the case. ICAP exams are just very, very hard. That's why I moved to Canada to do my CA.<img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

dear sam,
with all due respect, i wish to enquire why r u bent at persuading people to do ACCA. ( do u get any commission from ACCA authorities ... lolz dont take my comment seriously).
you should consider the fact that every young person cannot go abroad where ACCA qualification is considered worthy.
what wud those do who cannot pay the ACCA fee( which r in pounds)
plz dont brand qualifications as good or bad.
one thing more plz take into consideration the ppl who r not very good at dreaming, let them live in their realities.

CA is not hard, but it is made hard by the students themselves,
some time ago i read in this forum that out of three subjects in a CA module if you have C in two subjects then you must have A in the other or else you will fail in this subject.
So whynot try to get atleast B in all three
