Summary Of ICAP’s Seminars On Study & Examination Techniques-S

GENERAL DISCUSSIONS

A---EXAMS & RESULTS As per the presenters, these seminars are arranged to minimize GAP between the Institute and its students. They argued that there are many mis-conceptions prevailing among the students, demoralizing them must be removed. They clarified that
· Passing Marks are not above 50 by any means
· Results are not driven by the market demand
· Students are not declared failed by committing a “BLUNDER” . A proper marking scheme is followed which has no negative marking at all.
· An answer script is checked by more than one persons
· Neither Referral Papers are marked separately nor Passing marks are increased in each subsequent attempt.
· Question Papers are fully tested before using in the examination, for length, difficulty, being within the syllabus etc. However moderation effect is given in case of any human error remained undetected and uncorrected.
· Full marks are given if 7 or 8 out of 10 points are given by a student.
· Border line cases are remarked again.
· Try to cope exam fear. It’s half the success.

B---COMMON PROBLEMS
· Comprehension of the question.
· Expression
· Answers without a plan
· Time Management during the paper.
· Collection of a lot of material to study
· Acquiring new knowledge till the last available minutes before exam.

C---ROAD TO SUCCESS
· Give your best time to the best you think is for you.
· Select only ONE book as a base book which covers the most of your syllabus and refer to the other material only on need to know basis.
· Cover your syllabus well before your final exams, revise and evaluate what you have covered (by taking a RAETs' Mock Exams)
· Complete your preparation at least 18 hrs before your exams
· Be confident and composed
· Read your complete question paper thoroughly & carefully before attempting it. Do make an outline of all the questions you want to attempt on the last page i.e. page # 24 of your answer sheet in your attempting sequence. So that no point will skip from your mind rather if you recall any further point(s) it can be added to the outline.
· This outline will help you to manage your time during the exam. Do spare 5 – 10 minutes to “dot your i’s and cross your t’s”. It could prove the final difference.

D---SUBJECT SPECIFIC DISCUSSIONS

INTRODUCTION TO ECONOMICS AND FINANCE (IEF) - A3
· Financial Environment and Macro Economics carries 35% & 25% weightage respectively and 60% collectively. This portion is not & could not be covered by a text book. Newspaper and internet are the best source to cover these areas.
· Even Micro Economics could be covered parallel to Macro Economics and Finance portion.
· Diagrams should be used and labelled in the exams wherever they fit in the question.
· Even a diagram drawn for a question could be referred to if required again in another question. e.g. Please refer to diagram No. 2 of Q. 3(b) on Page 6.

MERCANTILE LAW (MLW) – B5 & INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IT2) – D13
· Answers are most of the time not relevant to the question.
· Understanding the concept and memorizing both are necessary to successfully attempt a question.
· Relate your knowledge to practical life as much as possible.
· At most of times, simple common sense is required to solve a question.
· Test yourself by solving past papers and comparing your answers with examiners comments.
· Timely syllabus coverage, repeated revision and extensive evaluation are the key to success in the subject

BUSINESS COMMUNICATION & BEHAVIOUAL STUIDIES (BCB) – C9
· Behavioral Studies (BS) and Interpersonal Communication (IPC) carries 35% & 15% respectively and 50% collectively. This half of the syllabus is easy to cover than the other one.
· PSTC is of great value in improving interpersonal skills, if attended properly.
· Practice, Practice & Practice plus evaluation are the key to success.
· If you want to write good, then just write, it will be good if not the best.
