Articleship(C.A.) - studentangel - 08-13-2006

I had completed P.E. II in Nov 2005. Due to some reasons I could not start Arcleship after clearing the exam. I want to join now. When I had asked some big firms for vacany over the phone, they said they don't have it at present. What should I do now? I just can't waste more time. Should I go personally to their office & enquire there.
I have heard that joining a big firm is more beneficial. My percentage in P.E. II was 52.83.Also I had cleared Group II of P.E. II in 2nd attempt , but my marks in SSC,HSC,T.Y. B.Com, P.E. I & M.Com I are very good. Will the big firms appoint me despite my low score in P.E. II. I have heard they take interview. What questions do they ask? Is it compulsory to go for Outstation Audit? What if I donot want to go outstation. Also please give me the names of some good firms in Mumbai other than Big Four Firms. What will be the prospects if I join some small or medium size firms. Will my delay in joining articleship have any impact on the firm which I get. Also what are the various work an articled trainee does? Please reply at the earliest.

Student Angel,

For a moment there,,. I had my head scratching and thinking about PE2 and marks and joining articles... then I realised that you were in Mumbai.

I know we have some memebers from India here and hope they can answer your queries in more detail.

I can how ever tell you that getting into Big4 will be an uphill task for any one and it would take more than a few calls,.. you would want to visit them, meet their HR hiring partners/managers and at the same time look at other top 10/20 firms (since you may not want to waste any more time). Goes without saying that first time passes are important but not always necessary to get into a firm.

And going 'out station' is quite the possibility especially if you are part of the trade and commerce industry,.. however you may have very little travel outside of Bombay if you were part Financial Services group (you will find these specialisation, more so in the Big4 and perhaps top 10 firms)
