SAFA Conference - TheOne - 05-11-2003

Most of you might have attended that yet another session of "Aamdam, Nashistam, Khurdam, Barkhaastam" ( Means... came, sat, ate and left)... This is what our GOOD OLDIES have been doing for the last Sooooo many decades... You see!!! how Mian Mumtaz Abdullah was blasting at the stage about cruelty upon "Insurance Sector"? (Because his own Insurance company has come under certain conditions). May I ask, BLUNTLY, I repeat BLUNTLY (no impression of humbleness to such corporate vultures).. that what He did for the betterment of Corporate Sector in Pakistan when He was the Chairman of CLA (then I used to call it "Corruption and Lawlessness Authority")?????... Now since it's online.. it's in the cyberspace... even I can't delete my posting... Now it's responsibility of Mian Sahib to prove that whether is he right now (being cm of an insurance co.)or was he wrong then (being cm of CLA)??? this is just one example of that conference..... Please share your views.. and if I'm wrong, Please correct me.

I didnt attend this conference... nor had any intention to either! I bet that it was just another case of 'Bonfire of Vanities'!! All the puffed up suits from South Asian region gathering every 2 years or so to vent out their pent-up frustrations built up from increasingly regulatory-minded governments, suddenly-woken-up-from-slumber-cos-of-enron public and highly aware clients who are constantly on the throats of these accountants. Nope... i don't even want to be within 500 meters of such an event.

I'd say had Mian Sahib's company been exempted from these conditions you mention, he would've been singing a thousand praises at the governement for its efforts to bring REFORM to the Insurance sector.

Corporate Vultures.... interesting choice of words indeed!! And no need to delete or edit your postings. Cyberspace also means freedom of speech and I would even suggest that you send the link of this page so that everybody can read this and add their two bits to this topic!

Hi, perhaps you're right... let alone Mian Sahib, "Aawe-ka-Aawa" is a huge cluster of "Red-Neck" type of African vultures....

- mAmiQ - 05-14-2003

and please don't forget Mr. Khawaja Amjad Saeed. The gentleman used every Q&A session to thrust his views on each session which left the audience and the speakers lurking for one question, WHAT IS THE QUESTION IN ALL THIS RANTING KHAWAJA SB.

Jokes apart. I agree that conferences in Pakistan have really become a CPE requirement which in most cases ends after signing your attendance and in case of ICMAP paying the dues. No one is really interested in the content and frankly no one has the time.

Perhaps seminars by IFAC or any other large accountany body/firm which really delivers quality with a tinge of interactiveness with the audience might spice up some fervour.
