Is it possible? - yamoon123 - 03-05-2004

AOA guyz
I am Rehman from Lahore.
I want to do ACCA and will begin it from this June for Dec attempt.
I want to know that is it possible to study myself for PART 1 and get pass?

if you have an accounting background, then yes you can study it by yourself and clear the exams if you put in sufficient efforts... Thats only valid for 1.1 and 1.2, because 1.3 (Managing People) doesn't require any accounting background... So basically 1.3 relies more on your english writing skills and memory.

Hello
I hope that it is possible for you to study at home and complete your ACCA. But why dont you try to study at an college like PAC and SKANS. Ok If you have an accountacy background then well and good but if you dont have it then it will acquire a lot of effort on your behalf. While there is a far distance course offered by various universities in which you can take part if you preffer it. Bye

Hi Legend Killer

I note that you are from India (New Delhi), good to have you around and lets take advantage of your presence. May I start by asking how do you know about skans (in Pakistan), do you have skans in india as well? What is the state of regulation of accouting market in india? I heard KMPG's Global chief visited ICA (india) very recently, I dont think he was on holidays, rumors were that big 4 are looking for possible openings in india, could you please tell us a little bit more about it.

Hi Ali

its interesting to note that on the basis of one book only, you think indian accounting profession is in a better state.

- yamoon123 - 03-08-2004

yes, I have an good accounting background( B.Com from HCC getting A grade). I will only study part 1 myself and for the remaining parts i will definitely prefer any institution.
secondly, please suggest me some books or material on the net for part 1.
third, can i appear on CBE exams for part 1 in Sep.
last one, can i get some model papers or pattern of papers from any resourse.
Thanks.

- The Legend Killer - 03-09-2004

Yes you can attempt the papers of 1.1 and 1.2 in CBE format while 1.3 can only be attempted in Manual format ie in June and December. I know about SKANS because although I am an Indian I have my many friends living in Pakistan doing ACCA from SKANS. As i am A muslim.
The state of chartered accountancy in India is not that good inspite of some great writers like Shukla and Gupta. So i thought that its worth while to do ACCA.

If Indian accounting is good, I guess it should have great prospects for CA qualified individuals... Whereas this contradicts to what an Indian friend told me... He said CAs in India get a starting salary of not more than Rs.15,000.

I wonder who's correct.

Yes Sumaaaaan .... you are right .... A charteredaccountant in India does get not more than 15,000 as starting pay. But in my opinion they have a better position as far as international recognition is concerned. I have worked on recognition from Institute of chartered accountants of Australia and found that Indian institute has better recognition than ICAP. ICAP has yet to put its efforts in this respect. <img src=icon_smile_angry.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_angry.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_angry.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_angry.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_angry.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_angry.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_angry.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_angry.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_angry.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_angry.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_angry.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_angry.gif border=0 align=middle>. Lets hope that our big shots in ICAP will do some thing about it very soon.

After a good grade in Accounting (A-Levels) is is quite easy to clear the first part of ACCA by self study.

The work scope and knowledge of almost all Chartered Accountants is the same... It basically depends on the individual himself and the field he's in (eg, Risk Management, Financial Analysing, Audit)... Because if you look closely, ACCA has a good syllabus outline as well, but an ACA is considered more competent than an ACCA in Pakistan... And why is that so?... Because of the 'four year articles' along with the impossible to understand passing criteria of ICAP.
