P1 and P7 tips and advice! - mjq1986 - 09-10-2010 Hello Everyone, I just joined this website and this is my first topic. I am planning to self-study papers P1 and P7. Could you please give me some tips and suggest that which books should I use? I'd really appreciate your help. Thank you. - mjq1986 - 09-12-2010 Thanks for your help. I have the BPP versions of P1 and P7. However, if you are suggesting the Kaplan ones then I'll buy them too. - arsenal.gooner - 09-12-2010 look, both ftc and bpp are ACCA approved and therefore, you should choose the one which you feel most comfortable with. both have completely different styles of writing. bpp has a mountain of text whereas ftc is concise and to-the-point. So see which one you prefer since you will be self-studying and you will have to do all by yourself. so the choice of study text is very important so that you do not start procrastinating bcz of the wrong study text. Cheers, - mjq1986 - 09-13-2010 Thanks a lot for the advice. Personally speaking, I always preferred Kaplan. Like you said, it is concise and to the point. I have used BPP for some papers but mostly I at times find the BBP text books a bit too complicated. The reason why I am confused about the textbooks is that mostly teachers use the BPP textbook for P7 so I was wondering whether I should opt for BPP or Kaplan. Another thing is that can you somehow guide me and give me an idea how should I devise a better and effective study time table since mostly I have taken classes so in that manner the teacher guides you plus you tend to revise along. I just hope my decision of self-study is a practical one. - arsenal.gooner - 09-13-2010 same here, i too prefer kaplan since bpp just freaks me out with unnecessary text and explanations. since you are self-studying and would have saved on tuition cost, i would recommend that you get both books. Since you prefer kaplan, first complete the book and once you are done, move on to bpp and check if anything additional you need to know. this should work great i think since you will have the best of both worlds. just keep the bpp for reference. As far as devising a timetable is concerned, sorry im pretty bad at this.. im one of those haphazard guys that are just whoh-hah when studying. i just cant keep up to a plan. However, what you can do is that if you are committed, just think like you are taking classes but keep the hours longer. for instance, you can keep 3 days in a week for p1 and 4 days for p7. if you like you can also overlap. Make sure you atleast give a significant time every session and keep some milestones. keeping on meeting them and you should be fine. Hope that helps, - mjq1986 - 09-13-2010 It surely did help a lot. Thanks a million. So what are you doing since it seems that you are done with your ACCA? Which optional papers have you given? - ACCAite - 09-15-2010 hey ! myself i am studying for P5 and P7, my last two exams and doing self study. For audit F8 paper i used BPP and even bought myself an FTC but damn...FTC was literally empty! had nothing in it...as in many things missing that i thought were essential. you should go for BPP book surely. I know its DAUNTINg to study that much text but think aboout it...usually a person retains a smaller portion of what he has read so with BPP....you will end up retaining more than an FTC book! Your last 2 exams or more to go? good luck! - mjq1986 - 09-16-2010 Thank you so much for the advice. Yes, I am also planning to go for BPP 'cos I also felt the same thing that if I read a lot of detail then I am bound to retain some of it, if not all and even that some can give me an edge surely. I have just last three papers to go; P1, P6 and P7. Good luck to you too -) Whats your study schedule? - freefor911 - 01-21-2011 Hi, pols are created for ACCA Study Texts you can assess students' choice about publishers from here http//www.accountancy.com.pk/forum/topic.asp?topic_id=14018 http//freefor911.wordpress.com/2010/07/21/bpp-vs-kaplan/ |
