Your drive against cable operators relaying vulgar and obscene movies is a welcome step. It was long overdue in view of the proliferation of the menace. Your intentions apart, there has been practically no real achievement on this count. What happened to the plans to install special gadgets to check relay of such channels and movies.
The fact is that transmission of obscene channels and movies by cable operators has assumed grave proportions. The cable operators are ignoring rather contemptuously the code of ethics as well as the rules regulating cable operation in Pakistan. An important reason for allowing cable operation in the country was to check vulgar material beamed through Western satellite channels and watched through dish antennae. Regrettably, however, the objective has not been achieved. Cable operators have, in fact, ensured availability of such channels easily and at lower cost. The practice is tormenting for the parents as it has become practically impossible for them to watch TV along with their wards. Apart from other social and cultural environment, it was one of the major causes of the break of family system in the West. Pakistan will also be drifting towards the same pitfalls, if we failed to nip the mischief in the bud.
The paradox is that no cable operator has so far been apprehended on the charge of relaying or transmission of obscene and pornographic movies. There is no doubt that Pakistani citisens have failed to act firmly in this respect. If you want to save your morality and cultural ethos and protect your family system, this menace will have to be curbed effectively to protect the younger generations from its poisonous fall out.
Pakistan is an Islamic polity and transmission of such material by the cable operators in this country constitutes a glaring, if not deliberate, deviation from Islamic values and virtues. Itâs hoped that the authorities concerned will act urgently to introduce sustained check on the cable operators. Anybody found guilty of doing so should be awarded deterrent punishment.
