CA after BCOM

I am going to do my BCOM from Punjab UNI this June, and I was wondering if you could give me some advice

I am thinking of doing CA after BCOM, i might nor be able to do MBA for some reasons, so I want your advice...

How tough is it? What are the internship requirements? Do they give exemptions to BCOM? what are referrals/ What is the pass mark? Is it true that in the final modules, they only pass like ten percent students? Can you recommend a good institution in rawalpindi/islamabad?

Yes you can do CA after B.Com.

The degree of toughness may vary from person to person depending upon the hard work done and one's aptitude. It doesn't usually involve cramming a subject but to grasp the concepts.

Internship requirements If you are joining the Modular Full Time Course MFC then after CA Inter you can apply at any CA firm and after passing the test and/or interview you'll get an on-job-training. And if you are going to join the Direct Graduate Stream you can directly enter a training agreement with a CA training firm and then take your foundation and intermediate level exams.

Pass Marks If my memory is not misleading me, its 50%.

Referral If a student obtains referral grade in one paper only, he has to appear in that paper along with the papers of the next module in the subsequent examination. Alternatively, if the student obtains referral grade in two or more papers, he has to re-take only these papers in the subsequent exam sitting.

Institute in Pindi/Isloo You can choose any of these College of Financial and Management Sciences H/8 Islamabad; SKANS F/8 Islamabad and National college of Business and Management Sciences F/8 Islamabad.

Why dont u starts CA now if u have acquired more than 60% marks in ur intermediate then u can join directly without any entrance test
and if u have secured less than 60% than u have to sit for PPT then u can join CA
i will advice u to join CA rite now and dont waste these two precious yrs of ur life
u shud start CA rite now

so u will qualify bit earlier than doing bcom first and then going for CA
do not waste time

I think I confused you people in my first post, I will FINISH my bcom this june, i.e. I will give 4th year papers this june, (and yes, it is the old-two year bcom) so i was asking your opinion on CA

ad2478-Nahin yaar, my brother has done ACCA, i want to do CA instead, (so that we have one of each type in the house!) and yes, they have auditing in bcom also (infact you can check out the syllabus of the two year bcom at HEC's website)

What is Modular Full Time Course and Direct Graduate Stream? do i have to choose from the start? which one is better? and how long is the internship?
BTW, can you study and do internship bith at the same time? or is it too tough?

And fees? Skans, i have heard of it, are they very expensive?

And what else should i know about? and please answer my burning question, is it true the only pass a few people in the final two semesters, to keep supply low, and hence raise demand?

The link for info on MFC and Direct Gradute Scheme has been mentioned by Idrees. You can explore the link and have an insight of these two entry routes. Yes, you have to choose the stream of study right from the beginning. But for the students of Direct Graduate scheme, there is an option of Intera-scheme Transfer i.e. if they find that studying and training at the same time is tough; they can switch to the MFC and study full time in a college and can apply for an internship after the completion of their foundation and intermediate level exams. If you think you can study and work simultaneously, then you can choose Direct Graduate Scheme while if you think you want to focus on just one area at a time then you can choose MFC.

The internship period is three and a half years.

SKANS and Fees It isn't expensive at all. Some times back, the fee per module was almost 20,000. Even now it'd be somewhere close to this figure.

I regret, I can't answer your last question as I don't have an experience of my own.

BTW their site has this exemption for quality students, but i can't understand the head or tail of it, they four different percentages for exemption! Yarr, do they even give exemption to Bcomm-ers?
Their site says they give for A1,A2,B3, but the %ages are confusing!

No, they don't grant exemptions to B.Com graduates.

As far as 'four different percentages for exemption' are concerned; there is some sort of technical problem with ICAP's website for the time being, as soon as the problem gets fixed, I'll have a look at it and will let you know, what does it say.

BTW the exemptions for quality students are to be granted in (three) individual papers and to those students who have secured more than a set percentage.

Dear rex,

After having done your B. Com you will be having two routes for CA.

1- Directly get registered as a trainee student.
2- First pass CA Inter as PFC and MFC and then go for your training

In first case duration for training is 5 years whereas in second case it is 3.5 years and CA Inter will take at least two years (if u dont go for combined modules)

In addition to above you can do PIPFA (6 papers after B.com 1 year) and can get exemption of CA foundation (module A and B 1 year) PIPFA might be easier than CA foundation.

Different people have different points. I suggest if you give prime priority to qualifying CA join training after CA Inter. On the other hand if you want to start earning earlier get registered as a trainee and pass CA Inter along with. However, in the later case you will not be able to get recruited in top firms

B.Com would b of no help to u during CA. believe me i've also done B.Com and then opted for CA. The approach to study in CA is very different from what usually the students of B.Com r used to. So, plz plz if u can handle the extre hard work only then enter this field. i dont mean to say that its very difficult. nothing is difficult if only u r committed.

My opinion is
1. if u have passed B.Com in 1st Div, immediately register urself as a PFC student with ICAP,
2. join a good institute for studies till CA-Inter, u may join SKANS, ICAF, PAC, well all r good. remember its u who has to do the study work, not the institute.
3. after completing CA-Inter, join a good firm for ur Articleship.

If it is perceived that I advised to start CA with articles, then its not the case. My point of view is quite similar to yours. The best approach in my opinion is that a student should start as an MFC or PFC and get coaching in a RAET, and after qualifying inter should go for training. Otherwise, his chances to qualify will diminish reasonably. Still, at the same time examples are there, who after B.Com opted for training, and got desirable result. Kamran Sb I think has told that his is a similar case.
