The Institute of Certified General Accountants (CGA-PAKISTAN® ) is an international Professional Accountancy body for all General Accounting Technician (GAT), General Accounting Practitioners (GAP) and Certified General Accountants (CGA). The Institute was formed for the specific purpose of providing National and International Organization for General Accounting Technician (GAT), General Accounting Practitioners (GAP) and Certified General Accountants (CGA), and also to foster interest in the national aspect of public accountancy equivalent to internationally accepted standards.
The governing body of the Institute is its ‘Council of Executive Members.’ The Council is assembled to represent the accountancy profession, fields of expertise and countries of operation. The Council is effectively the Institute’s ‘Governing Body and Board of Trustees’ and is responsible for determining policy and for management of the business of the Institute. The Council is lead by the President/Chairman. The Chief Executive, who is responsible for the operation of the organization, controls the secretariat of the Institute.
The Institute promotes and supports the advancement of the accountancy and auditing profession both in Pakistan and overseas. It also supports International Accounting and Auditing Standards (IAAS) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). The CGA-PAKISTAN® ensures that its examinations and membership requirements support the development of the accountancy profession in the countries in which it examines. Our students and members promote awareness of developments in accountancy. Seminars and conferences on matters of current and future concern to the accountancy profession are arranged from time to time. The high standard of the CGA-PAKISTAN® professional qualification is maintained by the independent and external moderation of the examinations.
Certified General Accountant (CGA) is a professional designation granted to the Professional Accountants. A person who meets the education, experience and examination requirements of the Institute of Certified General Accountants (CGA-PAKISTAN®) is entitled to use the professional designation and add the letters “CGA” to their title.
CGAs work throughout the world in industry, commerce, finance, government, public practice and the not-for-profit sector. CGA-PAKISTAN®’s professional education program is competency-based. Competency-based education requires candidates to perform tasks and roles to standards expected in the workplace.
The knowledge, skills and professional values required of a CGA are reflected in a list of competencies. These competencies extend over three areas: professionalism, leadership and professional knowledge. They are validated periodically through extensive survey analysis. The CGA Competency Framework details the 130 competencies required of a newly certified CGA.
The complete academic program consists of 18 courses, three business cases, and professional qualification exams, spread over several levels: Levels 1 to 2 (Technicians level Studies), Level 3 to 4 (Practitioners level Studies), and final level 5 to 6 (Professional level), last module with the elective option modules of Audit, Finance , Management and Project Management.
A CGA must have graduate degree. Students normally require 36 months of supervised work experience, but in all cases they require a minimum of 24 months. They may meet the experience requirements in any business sector and in a variety of fields.
