ORGANIZATION-
Pakistan Institute of Public Finance Accountants - PIPFA was established in October 1993 jointly by Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP), Institute of Cost & Management Accountants of Pakistan (ICMAP) and Department of Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) to provide accounting education and develop accounting professionals both for the corporate and public sectors.
PIPFA is registered with the Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) as public company limited by guarantee under Section 42 of the Companies Ordinance 1984. The Memorandum and Articles of Association of the Institute are registered with SECP and members' right to amend the same is subject to approval of SECP. PIPFA is a nonprofit organization wholly committed to accounting education and development. The name of the institution at inception was 'The Association of Accounting Technicians of Pakistan' (AAT). In August 2000, the present name was adopted.
PIPFA's members are known as Associate Public Accountant - APA and Fellow Public Accountant - FPA. The current (May 2003) membership exceeds 2,750 and covers professionals working in industry, trade and services in both public and private sectors. By May 2003, over 10,000 students have already joined PIPFA's Corporate Sector Education Stream. Public Sector Stream of education is to start in near future.
The 12-member Board of Governors, comprising three members from each of the sponsoring bodies and another three directly elected (every three years) by PIPFA members, manages the affairs of the Institute. The Board is supported by number of standing committees including Executive Committee, Examination Committee, Board of Studies, Publication & Seminar Committee and Regulation & Discipline Committee. The Board elects the honorary Office Bearers of the Institute each year from among its members. President is the Chairman of the Board and also Chief Executive. Executive Director is the Chief Operating Officer.
The Head Office of the institute is located at Karachi. There are branch offices at Lahore and Faisalabad

AFFILIATION & CONNECTION-
PIPFA is the associate member of International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), the world organization for the accounting profession. IFAC's mission is to develop and enhance the profession to enable it to provide services of consistently high quality in the public interest. Its current membership consists of 155 professional accounting bodies in 113 countries representing more than 2.4 million accountants in practice, education, government service, industry and commerce. PIPFA, ICAP and ICMAP are the only three institutions of Pakistan having representation with IFAC.
The three sponsoring bodies - Institute of Chartered Accountants, Institute of Cost & Management Accountants and Department of Auditor General of Pakistan have continuous stakes in running the affairs of PIPFA through combined representation of 75% on the Board of Governors.

The employment opportunities in Accounting and related field has been going strong. But the demand is for persons having specialized knowledge and excellent professional skills. PIPFA develops professional accountants of high standing who are capable to start career at middle level, the need for which is over four times that of the top-level professionals. PIPFA's professionals gradually move to positions of higher responsibilities. They are already eligible to become chief financial officer or company secretary of a listed public company being member of 'a recognized body of professional accountants', which is the leading qualification prescribed in the Code of Corporate Governance applicable to over 700 companies listed on the stock exchanges in Pakistan. Eligibility for Chief Financial/Accounts Officers of Non Bank Finance Companies (NBFC) is under active consideration with SECP.
PIPFA provides top quality Professional Education fully commensurate with the demands of present era of Perfection, Specialization and Professionalism. The distinctive feature of PIPFA's program is to make available high quality of education at easily affordable cost. There are two streams of education - Corporate Sector open to all and the Government Sector exclusively for the eligible Government employees working in Department of Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP), affiliated/related departments and some Government owned entities. The Government Sector program is to be launched in near future. The Corporate Sector program is successfully functioning and Over 10,000 students have already joined the program (till May 2003).

There is additional opportunity of having a ladder to become a Chartered Accountant, Cost & Management Accountant or some other professional qualification by availing various exemptions available to PIPFA qualified or members.
If you are a Master or Graduate or qualified at least Intermediate or equivalent examinations you can become the Accounting Professional in a short span of time at easily affordable cost. You can do it more conveniently if you have some specified qualification eligible for exemptions. There is no pre-entry test.
