well you got a very interesting situation.
The guy says he has done x amount of work. you have no basis to doubt his statement. I mean if your experience does not support his statement, that doesnot automatically mean that he is telling lies. Saying someone is telling lies is a very big statment in itself and one must be carefull in passing such remarks.
If the person is professionally qualified then I doubt he would give inaccurate information as it might come back to him any point in time in his professional lifetime. If the person is not qualified, you could assume at this stage that he is correct as you have no basis to doubt his statement. However, if you discover through experience and from other sources that he gave you inaccurate info. you could easily sit down and ask his for explanation.
Must give him a chance to explain, he might have a perfectly valid reason. people differ in productivty and efficency.
