You are right, Mr. . Today banks are not interested opening of new accounts from creatures like me and you. We the people having real domestic savings of Rs. 10,000 or Rs. 50,000 are eye sore and a burden on our todayâs banking. We are the creature who after every deposit of Rs. 200 or withdrawl of Rs. 500 ask the Bank for balance and argument for half a hour for Rs. 1.75 difference in balance. Whereas our todayâs banking needs those account holders whose eyes do not catch a difference or a deduction of three figure amount, Today sit in our banking industry âforeign ownersâ in whose eyes we are just creatures. In Allied Bank sit Saiths. Right from peon to SVP is owner of the Bank hence why the hell should they care for anyone. MCB is a so called private bank. What efficiency or service it has brought to the common man except that it has air conditioned its branches.
Banking is not developing in our country as is mislead. First; the ever increasing profits of banks are not due to their business but pickpocket the common man in the name of service charges etc. A retired colonel about 8 months back in his article very interestingly showed how many millions were account holders in Pakistan who cannot afford keeping minimum Rs. 10,000 and how much thus the banks are earning by (i) deducting service charges (ii) by not giving any profit to them. Secondly the rush of foreign banks coming to Pakistan or foreigners buying Pakistani banks is mainly due to the reason that our State Bank under the so called Prudential Regulations has given âMadir Pidarâ azadi under the label of free economy to the banks to do whet ever they want. Thus these foreigners find it more profitable in Pakistan than elsewhere that they can earn much by paying very little to people of this country.
However there is also one thing which has played a pivotal role and that is lethargy of our common man. For example you faced humiliation at Habib Bank and MCB in Lahore but you failed to recognize your duty to name the Branches. You failed to file a written complaint with higher ups. I can not recall if I never let any such a thing unrecorded in writing. The result is today in any airline, in any bank or anywhere if I have a work I am welcomed and it is tried that my job eg encashment of my cheque is done without queue so that I may get off from the Branch not to see anything wrong. By making complaints in writing we cannot reform the whole system but at least we can get our own problems solved and get proper attention to our problems in future from concerned quarters. Mr. S.M. Zafar once rightly said no system may be parliament, any ism or any presidential system will deliver unless people themselves started recognizing their own rights and started protesting on any injustice.
As far as common man and a domestic saver is concerned there is no change in attitude of banking. It is going worst day by days.
