The percentage of water in 20 liters of adulterates milk is 10. The quantity of water to be added to it, to increase the percentage of water to 25 percent is,
4 liters
5 liters
7 liters
8 liters
Let X be the further quantity of water to be added. Currently quantity of water is 2Kg. (10% of 20Kg)
So reducing it in an equation form
(2kg + X) of water = 25 % of new mixture (20+X)
2 + X = 25% of (20+X)
2+X = 5 + 0.25X
X-0.25X = 5 - 2
0.75X = 3
X = 3/0.75
X = 4 Kg
A reduction of 20 percent in the price sugar enables a purchase to get 4 kg more for Rs.80. The original price of 1 kg of sugar was
Rs 4
Rs. 4.50
Rs 5
Rs. 5.50
let x be the price and y be the quantity
xy = 80 ...............1
Price reduces by 20% and quantity increases by 4kg but total expense remains the same
So
0.80x(y+4) =80 ..................2
Dividing eq 2 by eq 1
We have
0.80(y+4)/y = 1
0.80y + 3.2 = y
Or
Y-0.80y = 3.2
0.2y=3.2
y = 16kg
Put in eq 1
16x = 80
x = 80/16
x =Rs5 original price of sugar
In a camp there is provision for 1,600 participatants to last 60 days. If the percent strenght of the camp is 1, 200 the provision will last for --- days

Let X be the unknown variable.
160060 1200X (since its an indirect proportion between variables so 1600 x (X) = 1200 x 60)
X =1200 x 60/1600
X = 45 days
The money to be invested in 4 percent stock at Rs 90 to provide in annual income of Rs 100 is
Rs 1,800
Rs 2,000
Rs 2,250
Rs 2,500
Face value of investment = 100/.04 = 2500
Since stock is available at 4% discount so you would have invested only 90 % of face value
0.90 x 2500 = Rs 2250
A camera was sold at a loss of 10 percent. If it was sold for Rs 70 more. There could have been a gain of four percent. The camera we sold for
Rs 214
Rs 294
Rs 450
Rs 500
Let X be the cost of camera
Sale at 4% profit LESS sale at 10% loss = 70
104% OF X - 90% OF X {(AT A LOSS OF 10% MEANS 90% OF COST)} =70
1.04X - 0.90X = 70
0.14X = 70
X = 70/.14 = 500
Sold at a loss of 10% means 500 - 10% of 500 = 450

If the price of the coal be raised by 10 % by how much percent a man must reduce its consumption so as not increase his expenditure.
9%
9-1/4 %
9-1/2 %
10-1/2%
let us assume that he spends 100 on coal before the price rises. Let the coal price be 100 too. The new price of coal is 110 (10% more) but his expenditure would still be 100
Hence 100/110 x 100 = 90.90
this is 9.09 percent (100 - 90.90) reduction in consumption while keeping the expense at the same level
The cost price of 16 article is equal to the selling price of 12 articals find the gain or loss percent.
33-1/2% gain
33-1/3% loss
25 % gain
25 % loss
Take LCM of 16 and 12 you get 48
Now
48 = 48
That is 16 x 3 = 12 x 4
Which shows that item costing 3 is sold for 4 to keep the equation balanced
4/3 = 125% so it means gain of 25%
What profit percent is made by selling an articale at a certain price if by selling at two- third of that price there would be a loss of 20%?
5%
15%
25%
20%
let 100 be the normal selling price and X be the profit percentage
then 100/X = cost
2/3 x 100 = the reduced selling price at which there is a loss of 20%
now
Cost - reduced selling price = Loss
100/X - 2/3 x 100 = 20 % of cost
100/X - 2/3 x 100 = 0.20 x 100/X
(300-200X)/3X = 20/X
(300-200X)/3 = 20
300 -200X = 20 x 3
-200X = 60 -300
-200X = -240
X = 240/200
X = 1.2 that is 120% of cost and that means 20% profit

Let cost be X
then
Loss of 40% means sale price is 60% of cost X = 329
X = 329/.60 = 548 1/3
Selling at a profit of 20% means 548 1/3 x 120% = 658

A man spends 12-1/2% of his money and after spending 75% of the remainder , he had Rs 175 left. The money he had at first was
Rs 4.50
Rs 4.2/3
Rs 4.67
Rs
LET THE ORIGNAL AMOUNT OF MONEY BE X
He spends 12.5% leaving behind only 87.5% of X .He, then, further spends 75% of this amount leaving only Rs175
Reducing this in an equation we have
87.5%X - 75% of 87.5% X = 175
.875 X - .065625X = 175
.21875X = 175
X = Rs 800
