It can be three years in total. The firm MAY consider the previous year as well.
It's very disappointing such good firms are too miser to pay even the annual subscription(Let alone other expenses) of ICAEW trainees, which is compulsory for them. You should try to get inducted in a firm offering ICAEW, as an ACCA trainee. In the interview you can express your interest that you wish to persue ICAEW training and discuss the matter right then.
I had asked KPMG islamabad about the ICAEW contract, they said you should discuss that in the interview.
