When I used to have dialup, I'd connect to the Windows Update site in the night say 11-12pm and viola.... in the morning all updates would have downloaded and installed. Ofcourse you'd need to do nothing on the net on that day.
Another solution is Bigfix http//www.bigfix.com
This software checks your PC for any vulnerabilites and downloads appropriate updates. The problem is that it downloads one update at a time and does not have a batch mode.
NB. Unfortunately we still lack good ISPs and cybernet has been leading the way till now in download speeds. If your ISP cant give you, say 4-5kbytes per second download speed, change it. (
