ACCA vs CA

I have read earlier mails (quite distasteful I must say) by NASCAR and I was not surprised to see that how can a “qualified” CA behave like a street urchin when it comes to defend ACA qualification with that typical my-toy-is-better-than-yours attitude. In my early days in chartered accountancy profession I was fed with the same myth (but its not entirely a myth anyway) that being a CA means you are doctors of accountancy profession and all the MBAs, MComs, BComs ACMAs (later ACCA was added to the list) are just druggists (compounders as you say). CA students tend to develop an unconscious chauvinism right from the day they join ICAP and then they keep on looking down upon the ‘lesser professionals’ throughout their careers.

Things have changed my friend and if you think that being ICAP’s ACAs means you are something invincible then you are sadly mistaken. No doubt qualifying ACCA is much more easier than qualifying ICAP’s exams and generally ACAs are better professionals than ACCAs etc. but the fact remains ACCA is growing and getting recognitions from many professional bodies around the globe. ICAEW’s CCAB route is a glaring example. And as exactly what was expected ICAP’s CAs (save some enlightened men like pracs) are crying hoarse and are foaming at mouth when they have finally realized that now there is an easier way that one could take to become an ACA.

ACA’s sheer small number has endangered their own existence and now it appears “mediocrity” is going to dominate corporate scene in Pakistan (by number at least). ICAP’s monopoly is now in serious danger of dilution and the threat is a ‘large influx of Toms Dicks and Harrys’ with ACA designation. We ( Toms Dicks and Harrys) are very happy that we have found a way to be ACAs even though people like NASCAR are adamant that CCAB-route is not as easy as it appears.


O My fellow Toms Dicks and Harrys, keep a close watch on ICAP’s website. I have a feeling that ICAP is going to either withdraw exemptions granted to ICAEW members or going to re-structure the exemption policy so as to defuse the effect of ICAEW’s CCAB- route.

Actually, I am looking for an A4 Colour Laser Printer with Edge to Edge Printing capability. Despite spending almost one hour on the phone, I could not find a single one. Can you help with the make and model number.

dear pracs fun aside i just wanted to make the point that in pakistan ACCAs have to prove them selves with hard work n efforts no need to claim any thing , equality or superiority with any profession

n that CCAB is very expensive

You have the right to make your point even if it is as illogical as your views on ACCA. I am not the only one who slam your comments, Pracs and Hanif both have affliliations with ICAP, why are they condenming you? Its not me who need to think its you bro!

Since you asked, I moved to industry roughly the same time you quit Taseer Hadi (KPMG if that makes you feel BIG).

As far as I remember from this forum, it wasn't me or ACCAs who were claiming to be EQUAL or SUPERIOR to any professional qualification and as far as I remember it was me who was saying and saying again that no professional qualification is superior to no one. Go back and see who was the culprit, who repeatedly disrespect a professional qualification.

NASCAR, I pity you on your 'restricted' views and even more on your demonstrated ability to 'think'. I hope you are really a member of ICAP because if you are really an ACA I'd like to appologise to the forum on behalf of a fellow member. I have seen ICAP students (and ACCA students likewise) rant unecessarily with out thinking, but you are our first ACA (if you really are) with such behaviour. I guess its more of a case of 'frog in the well'.

NASCAR, you have ended your post with some thing that makes sense,.. you go on to say that in Pakistan ACCAs have to make an effort and hardwork to prove themselves. Now do I see a change of opinion here. The reason for this is simply because ICAP has the legal backing in Pakistan, and has a 98% alumni at the hiring level, so it is only natural that there would be discrimination against ACCAs. As I have said in my earlier posts it will take atleast another 5-10 years for ACCA to kick in and make its mark. The biggest obstacle is ofcourse 'the right to practise'. ACCA is preceived to be different things in different countries. In my first job in Dubai.. I was hired solely on the basis of ACCA and a big4 training (I was still awaiting results for the final ICAP papers), thereafter in all my promotions and job switchs ACCA and ACA were always joint factors along with my experience. A year ago I moved to the UK a Big4 again,.. the criteria this time was the fact that I had over 7 years of IFRS/IAS experience in Big4's in two countries and the fact that I was an ACA pakistan (prime pakistani accountancy qualification)and an ACCA.

ICAEW would have lost their edge as the biggest accounting qualification in UK in a couple of years hence their desperate attempts to MERGE with CIMA and PIPFA,.. that being voted out,.. I guess this is ICAEW's desperate of desperate attempts to be able to retain their market share !! for it to be success depends how many ICAEW memebers would endorse it. This is quite a lucrative offer since even CAs from Australia, NZ, SA, Canada and Zimbabwae have to sit for the tax and law papers !! I know my australian CA colleagues are ranting since they have to sit for the legal and tax tests. Lets be practical about our views since we are all working professionals and not wet behind the ears any more.

ur words have some weight especially if u r both an ACCA n ACA other wise it could be a just ur own hatered of not passing one exam or the other. (am i adding another enemy by saying this ?!!)

pl. pl. be very clear i am not defending ACAs i m just having fun with the ACCAs who think they are better than than ACA in pakistan and ACAs are just exploiting them , just wanna make them realize they need to make some effort to be recognized

ACCAs need a bomb shell to realize they need to do somthing!

frankly n generally only fresh ACAs are sometimes afraid of a higher pass percentage in ICAP but as time passes this fear also subsides as value of their experience increases. ACCAs rarely come in the picture. an ICAP ACA is the true competition of an ACA in the market at present and the sheer quantity of ACCAs is not changing this situation > "so wats the answer" ACCAs have to rise from the botom and not just aim for the top slot it may be unjust but thats the only way now. its the survival of the fittest - (animal example coming up for people who like animals a lot !!!) a deer can out run a cheetah sometimes but if it tries real hard and it can even hurt the cheetah with his horns saw it once on nat Geo it was a gisselle not a deer any way. being a deer is not bad u just need to try harder - why u wanna change ur deer like chal and become a cheetah instead

a thousand new ACCAs wont make much of a difference in the market unless they perform really exceptionaly and get the positions where ACA are sitting - its a tough road ahead full of thorns placed by ACAs there but u have to pass it

a position where an experienced ACA is competing with an experienced ACCA - a sitution never seen by me n pakistan. wats the anwer guys

i had always said what u understand finally i dont have a love hate relationship with the ICAP or ACCAs these r just degrees, the thing which counts is the person and not wat qualification he/she has !!

my being sarcastic was taken in a wrong way but i enjoyed it so i continued cause i knew that some people would be able to understand it.
wat i m saying even if u see my first mail, keeping the fun part aside, is the same

sorry for being serious, i forgot that these ACCAs cant understand this!! they would just continue saying we are being exploited and treated unfairly

Hi Goodman

The terminology used for edge to edge printing capability is FULL BLEED.

Only Epson, Canon and Xerox offer a limited range of full bleed printers, it is economical to buy an ink jet as laser full bleed costs a fortune.

actually, I spoke to almost all companies. Apparently nobody does A3 size full bleed colour laser printer. Some of them suggested to get A4 size and resize it to fit A3. One of them even suggested a printing press unit costing £6000.

As you said, the only other option is inkjet so thats what i am going for. I believe Dell would be good one.
