He may be interested in CA for two main reasons,

a. credibility that comes along with CA
b. CA is a good education so if post-qualification somebody leaves CA profession and go into non-traditional areas but if he is not successful in new roles than he cal always comeback to its accounting profession, i.e. CA provides flexibility

Ofcourse your view point is logical but for majority of us who are not sure what a particular profession entails, in other words to keep your options open, it is suggested that having a CA would 'only' increase your value and offer more flexibility than otherwise.

Simple MBA is waste of time, agreed, but even MBA from IBA or LUMS may be general qualification and there would be many people looking for jobs based on that piece of 'important' paper. Whereas, if one went to the CA route and by the time he/she would qualify not only they would have axquired good soft skills and CA qualification, but also the relevant work experience and exposure to variety of work would undoubtedly broaden the vision and offer easier transition than otherwise.

First of all, everyone here should realize that your earning capabilities are dependant more on your level of competency, your luck, the break you get, the organisation you are in, and then finally your qualification.

a CA with no interpersonal skills and public relationing techniques would end up no where. Yes CA would definitely give you more bargaining power later on, but that too would depend not just on the fact that you're a CA, rather on your overall professionalism, personality, competency and hardwork.

I know some people who are just graduates but have been regularly promoted and are well placed!

So you all should just study hard with ACCA/CA or whatever you're doing, and fill up the gaps that would hinder your job prospects. (eg personality grooming)
