Best foreign job destination??

Is it the Middle East.. or more in particular... Dubai?

A friend tells me that things arent much rosier for ppl over there of our profession than here in Pakistan. The middle east market has been gutted with much cheaper, ready-to-work-longer-hours professionals from other South Asian countries like Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh etc.

Any comments?

What about South east Asia... ie. Malaysia, Singapore etc?

I have been to dubai two times ! U r absoutely right. Picture of Middle East looks very rosey from here, but the ground was very hard in the middle east. Plus our expectations are very high, our competers are available in a much lesser remunaration. Because they normally do not bring their families with them and they are ready to live in poor conditions as compared to us.

i think there are very few opportunities in the far east - malaysia and singapore. malaysia had a lot of opportunities before the monetary scams etc.

presently i work in Dubai for a big 4 and its not bad including the remuneration and all. i very much agree about the cheap Indian,Sri Lankan CA's. But i guess good employers realise the potential of Pakistani CA's and when they hire one they pay you better. Plus to work in the gulf a CPA or an ACCA counts a lot.

Ofcourse working in the gulf has its downers too, one cannot plan to stay here for long keeping in mind the expat status. Not to mention the kind of discrimination you face when competing with expat arabs and goras for that matter

What should be the best foreign job destination? Well I beleive it depends upon individual in what he/she is interested. If one is interested in making money, there is no place like Middle East (specially Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman and Kuwait - where cost of living is less than that of UAE). However, if one want to brushup his professional skills - UK, US or Far East Asia is better place. Unfortunately, above places do not recognize Pakistani CA (in theory they do) and one has to have foreign qualifications like ACCA, CIMA or CPA to enter the market. Even Middle East recognize ACCA, CIMA or CPA more than Pakistani CA's.

- great scenery
- no traffic jams on the way to work
- nice hospitable neighbors (the penguins!)
- really cool living conditions (an igloo)
- and who cares about dirty old money in front of such wonderful conditions

although i am not too sure that an accountant would be needed much down there! <img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

On a serious note.... can somebody tell me about work prospects in Australia and New Zealand?

I have a suggestion. Why dont we start a group whereby each one of us should post any Audit vaccancy they know of. THe vaccancy can be anywhere in the world UK, USA, UAE, ME, Far East etc
