In her book, <b>The Sole Spokesman</b>, Ayesha Jalal has made a similar argument that Jinnah, who was an advocate of Hindu-Muslim Unity, was forced to demand a separate homeland for the Muslims of the subcontinent because of the unwillingness of Nehru and Sardar Patel to have an equitable power sharing arrangement between Hindus and Muslims. She argues that it is because of the hard-line positions taken by Nehru and Sardar Patel which forced Jinnah to depart from his role as an ambassador of Hindu-Muslim Unity.
