As DerivativeTrader mentioned in one of his recent posts, 'you can't compare apples with oranges'... CA and Actuary are pretty much different fields... On an ironic note, I guess you meant which one is 'better' ) ... Just kidding Mr Bilal, the thing is, one can't compare CA and Actuary on general grounds... If you want to know about salaries, then generally speaking Actuaries are more highly paid than CAs.

If you can tell your locality, then it would be easier for us all to tell you the institutions.

Once you said that which one is better, what parameters would you like us to consider?
Secondly, since the FIA/FFA is also a business qualification and very few people have gained such status as yet, compared to accountancy qualifications, I would advice you to give this area a serious thought. Having said this, you should also need to consider the associated complexities with the job areas where actuaries work and most importantly the short-term inconveniences.

I totally agree with Sumaaan, but are salaries the only motivation to a particular career? What about the per-hour ratio!!

hehehe... i learnt about the PH ratio when i actually started work. Back in the student days, salaries were the only motivation.

And as for u Bilal, both of these professions pay quite well. You shouldnt decide about your future based on what's best, but in which field do u have to aptitude.

is there any law for restriction on the comparison of both, but i know some laws in which you compare both of them, (laws of economics for utility) he he he he.
anyways, Mr.bilal, the career choosing is a difficult decision. you should be very careful while doing so, you should choose that field in which you have interest. take care

Well to be 'exact', I wrote 'if you want to know about salaries...' , so basically on that ground I compared both CA and Actuary.

Intrinsic and Extrinsic factors both constitute to a person's motivation towards a job... So if there are other factors which might motivate Mr.Bilal, please mention so that our newbie can have a better picture in mind about his career planning.

First tell me about the scope and the top institutions and the criteria for admission in Actuary and then in CA I will compare and choose myself.

one cant exactly compare the CA and Actuary qualifications in a straightforward way. they both are relatd to the business world and all orgnizations and institutions depend on their work. the exact and specific area of expertise of a CA and an Actuary are quite different but, one has to admit that both, if given the task, can to some extent carry out the functions of the other. Actuaries were traditionally involved only in risk calculations etc and in the insurance business, today their expertise is used in almost all areas of business. Similarly a CA was traditionaly an expert accountant and an auditor, but today a CA is a financial planner, a risk calculator, strategic manager and some of these areas are common to both actuaries and chartered accountants.
with regard to the salaries of course, the starting figures for actuaries are better than those of chartered accountants, but farther down the road, say 6-10 years post qualification, they seem pretty much similar in most cases.
Bilal, if you want to study for an actuarila qualification i would reccomend you move to karachi and not lahore as the actuarial circle in karachi is larger and more active in karachi.
