Engineering or CA

ASSALAM-O-ALAIKUM
I have read some discussions here .I want to get some information.I got 850 marks in F.Sc pre-Engg. i applied for engineering. I came to know about C A.Whenever I talked to some one about CA, I heard that it is the most difficult job to become Chartered Accountant, and that a few people become CA every year. SO I request all members to tell me please what is the difficulty level to become Chartered Accountant.Is it true or Just rumour that it is much difficult.
Also tell me which colleges are best for CA i have heard about SKANS and PAC.Colleges of which City are good; Lahore or Islamabad.
Another thing i want to ask is that is it very difficult to join a good Accounting firrm in Final,and that good firms take only those dtudents who have any SHAFARASH.and also please tell me should i go for engineering or CA.

i am a student of Module-C in Karachi and have cleared both MFC-A and MFC-B in first attempt. i don't know about the final level but as far as my experience goes, it is not very difficult to do CA, all you need is hard work (lots of it), your parent's prayers (definitely) and last but not the least a whole lot of luck <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> ... hehehe... but seriously, anyone can pass in CA (as far as i can say)
i believe in the end it all comes down to what you do in the examination hall in those 3 hours and then again luck which i believe is a major factor coz in my short experience as an ICAP student i have seen some really brilliant students falter... anyways, if you think you can work really hard, take a lot of stress & tension and not be afraid of a little mishap here or there then definitely go for CA

Well, mbsnaaa sahib, keeping aside u'r aptitude/talent and considering only the future prospects of earning, my suggestion to u is to opt the field of chartered accountancy.
And about it's being difficult, i agree with net_mania that u can come-over it by hardwork.
About the colleges, all r fine, where-ever u r it mostly involves u'r own effort. Staying in u'r own city would be better.
The top firms in the country usually hold tests to recruit trainee students, perform well in that test and that's it. It would be an added advantage if u have any reference. <font face='Arial'></font id='Arial'><font face='Tahoma'></font id='Tahoma'><font face='Times New Roman'></font id='Times New Roman'><font color=blue></font id=blue>

Not because every one whois into accounting will recomend CA, and not because there's a professional loyalty but i suggest u to analyse urself.

Analysis is of utmost importance but let me help u in asking few questions with urself.

1. Do you work hard or ur intelligent
2. Do u study a lot or require lil knowledge to attain enof
3. Do u have a will power or not
4. Are u kinna perfectionist and believe in completion or juss Guzarra kinna person.
5. Do u have a habbit of self studying or u require giudances or spoon feeding

well i tell u, CA is difficult for those who may have an aptitude but do not have attitude. If deleting luck factor from CA its the game of strategy,
Its Ur attitude towards ur
1. Assisgned task i.e. studies
2. Ur syllabus,,, thats all atleast uptil 4 initial modules which i must declare may be in completion half of CA but in fact are just 25% of the whole CA considering the effort and luck and pressured studies schedules are concerned..

So if u have 850 marks and which u have attained through planning and hardwork, u may pursue for an accounting career but remember FSc pre engineering technically dont help much in CA but what works out ultimately is the habbit of hardwork and competition....

One thing more....(as i always am interested in carreer counseling) its a technique to select the two fields by starting to pinpoint negative aspects and the field with the most negative aspects should be left...The areas u need to consider are

1. The study criteria
2. The predicted or current demand and supply in say next 5 year when u graduate from Univ.
3. The social standing of the two fields.
4. The worst case scenario for the both fields (for CA i tell u is juss like burning all the boats behind,,, once u enter u must qualify otherwise there's nothing much left behind except frustrations.....


I do not intend to restrict u from CA but i tell u its not a joke and one thing more,,, that it was made tough due to the reason that all debarred and dejected and rejected ppl with negative attitude towards studies and lack of intelligence. They used to enter say in say 1980 -1995.. but now its not really a joke. Its a highly specialised science which molds u into a one good professional..

hi there mbsnaa.. well about CA i would say that u better burn all the boats as said by our senior member.. but yes i would like to draw your attention towards a much demanding and challenging route towards CA and that is ACCA......
well in todays world we speak about recognition round the globe and I tell you what until and unless you qualify for CA you are nothing.. so i suggest you to go for ACCA in the first place and then after ACCA you should appear in final stages of CA giving you both degree and a global recognition....
altough many of the members wont agree to me but being a student of ACCA core papers i definately would recommend you that...
about the firms well this is pakistan ) u need references but i personally believe in merit .. but no doubt merit counts more )
anyways all the best and considering your marks in FSc.. well remember one thing that forget your past achievments before entering CA or ACCA coz it requires to work hard in present )
