And by the way, Big Four are the international firms dominating the profession internationally. They virtually have presence in all the countries either through direct offices or through associates.
For your information, Big four used to be Big Five some times ago. The fifth one, Arthur Andersen, was dissolved following the Enron Scandal. For a complete understanding, you may refer to the following internet resources.
msc286 you didn't tell the name of your firm. Because there are not many firms who are offering more stipend than minimum prescribed rates. Generally smaller firms which face difficulty in finding trainees give such offers
At Karachi, I have observed some firms having nominal businesses who offer stipends more than the prescribed rates. But it is not compulsorily a characteristic of small scale firms.
In my view, if some firm is paying higher stipends, it should be appreciated for taking care of its students' needs. There may be some good firms as well offering higher stipends.
However, I have some different idea for CA students anticipating such financial benefits. In my view, students' choice of a firm must not be based upon any anticipated higher financial assistance unless due to circumstances it is the limitation for some one. Students should analyse the good working environment, good clientle and good attitudes of managers and partners. Life is ahead to earn, therefore, when some one is student his major shift of interest should be on the other qualitative factors.
I remember that when I completed my articles I was struggling in Final. One of my respected qualified seniors in industry, who was my friend in spite of being much senior to me in age, advised me not to search a job with attractive financial benefits. I asked why? He replied that a job with attractive financial benefits without qualification, would ultimately reduce the urge to qualify.
I accepted his advice and joined where I had to work much more than the attached compensation package. My juniors got cars and attarctive salaries in contrast. This caused some pinching and I succeeded qualifying final.
This is just an idea for those who might be undergoing similar situations. I bet this can help a lot in qualifying the exams. On the other hand so many people leave endeavors to qualify just becoz they get good salary packages in industry. At least this would not happen, in above situation.
Further, Mr. Mahmood is a practicing CA and as such he, in my view, does not want the others to identify him directly. His contribution to this forum is appreciable, which might be affected if we all would know him personally. This is his right and I think you guys should not stress it further.
I can understand it being in similar situation. Once a guy asked some particulars about me and I posted for his satisfaction. Thereafter, I deleted them. He objected that why did I do so. However, I dint post any reply to his question.
You are a nice contributor and my words were not simply a praise for you.
Offering more stipened, as per my view, is totally a charachteristic of smaller firms. The reason being just to have student. I have no idea about Karachi but situation is exactly like this in Lahore. And why to appreciate a firm paying higher stipened, they are just doing it for themselve and never with an intention of students' benefit.
A big majority of students (atleast for articles) giving lot prefernce to firm over these tiny financial gains.
Mr. Mehmood, like you, is definitely worthy member of this forum
If it is a characteristic of smaller firms, even then, it is good at the part of such firms. However, I know fresh B.Com boys could be hired at Rs 4500-5000 (almost) for working with the firm which is not much higher than the stipends. We have a national level assignment where we have included the services of CAs, ACMAs, ACCAs etc and as support staff, we are planning to hire almost 100 B.Com/M.Com guys. Work on this would start in three or four days.
Yes, students should consider other qualitative factors instead of minor financial benefits. You are right.
