Can someone trained from Big4 in karachi but not a qualified CA use his 4 year ICAP training for ICAEW purposes or will he be required to enter into a new contract.

i have heard that the only route available for an ICAP student for ACA-ICAEW is only after he becomes a CA member. is it true? does ICAEW provide credit for prior learning on a paper-to-paper basis to ICAP students?

@odyssee
if you search the ICAEW credit for prior learning directory for ICAP, you will see that credit is available to ICAP members. http//www.icaew.com/index.cfm/route/146395/icaew_ga/en/Students/Credit_for_prior_learning_directory if you go through this form on the ICEW website, under the heading Credit for UK and international professional accountancy qualifications, it says In some cases membership of the body may also be required http//www.icaew.com/index.cfm/route/148554/icaew_ga/Students/ACA_students/Your_exams/Credit_for_prior_learning_application_form_for_professional_qualifications/pdf

it clearly states ICAP members. further if you download this form to apply for CPL, it states at the bottom that supporting documents have to provided . these are evidence of ICAP membership, and details of exam passes. so we can say that CPL is only for ICAP members.

interestingly one can also apply for receiving credit for prior work experience in ICAEW. please have a look at this link http//www.icaew.com/index.cfm/route/115655/icaew_ga/Students/ACA_students/Your_work_experience/Credit_for_prior_work_experience_form_1/pdf For use when you wish to claim credit for experience in the same office as your current contract. Please note that only work experience from an office authorised by The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) to train chartered accountancy students will be considered for credit. We do not accept applications from offices that are not authorised to train students.

With new & new employers signing contracts with ICAEW, one of the two things are going to happen.
1- There would loads & loads of CA's with both ICAP & ICAEW Qualifications resulting in great dilution of ICAP market value. 2- ICAP would revise its exemption policy for ICAEW making it somewhat like what it is for ACCAs. 3- ICAP would make the two papers of tax & law very difficult to pass in order to maintain their supply & demand ratio.

I have a question for PIBF, do you have to have a trianing contract with a company after you have cleared the papers for ACA or during your training? If you do, is it easy to find a company in Pakistan?
08-07-2009, 03:20 PM
no currently we have not any contract, but we can reffer the students to the firms offering ACA traing in Pakistan
08-07-2009, 06:45 PM
And how many firms are there? And, what is the percentage chance that they will take the students?
I was sooo keen to go to your institute to do ICAEW but I met a person yesterday who has been looking for an articlesip for ACA for a loooong time now....and he also went to UK and stayed there two and a half months looking for an articleship...no luck!!! so, now, I am seriously doubting about doing ACA! How many of your students have actually become ICAEW certified ACAs in Pakistan? (including the articleship)

remember ACA-ICAEW is greater then ACCA, CIMA, CA or ICMA.
& its not that much difficult!!!!! you can do it in just 3 years. Salam, I am currently doing my A levels & would like to know if i can directly start doing ACA ICAEW[?] from PIBF.Time period? What about training once i have done ACA[?]
