Railway System Of Pakistan..

After experiencing several times the facility of pakistan railway i must say trains in pakistan will never reach their specific destinations in time. Due to single track, trains has to stop in the way for other train's crossing. Also interior of trains are not so pleasing, i remember once due to no booking i had to travel in economy class from sadiqabad to multan. PPl were sitting on the floor, smoke of ciggerettes were there, it was really difficult to pass 5 hrs journey there. Then in multan during my about 1hr stay , it was really pleasant. I will never forget this journey full of learning. Afterwards i came back to lhr via Daewoo service.
I must say Daewoo service is excellent, reaches with in time. There should be double railway track or bus services like Daewoo.
Passengers will definately be happy by this suggestion
what do u ppl think???

Hi waqas!
Ur post made me nostalgic for the days when we used to travel by train for holidays. U see the British left many legacies behind them such as education system, civil service, English language itself and one perhaps the most important one is Railway system in Indo-Pak.
As u might know Indian Railways is the biggest employer in the world.
I remember travelling by train in my college days to Quetta, Rawalpindi and Multan.
Although i was born and raised in Karachi, the railway journey was a real educational experience. The infectious energy of small town railway station, the friendliness of common people in the train, and the genuine interest shown by total strangers in you. I don't know, may be i am old fashioned. But after almost touring the world, i simply could not find that atmosphere anywhere else.
I don't know if being on time is that important, but certainly the physical conditions should be improved in the rail cars.
I don't know what the situation is now,it has been a while since i have taken a rail trip. But i hope these time honoured traditions of our society donot change with matterial progress.

actually, the problem with us is this we always raise our voice for DONTS!! have we ever said "DO", nah!

i bet, u, waqas, experienced difficulty while travelling thru trains but have u ever tried NOT to be difficulty for others? we throw away totas of cigs while sayin "look! some idiot has trashed the area!"
when we r pointing finger at someone, our other three fingers are pointing at us, and thumb supports that, YES, we r the first one to mend our ways.

Another thing, a lot has been written on Pakistan and its Railways System, its of no use to bombard forum with another million threads on this isse, lets talk abt T-3 Wink

Hi Raza!
U r right on money here. And it is a frank admission of our abilities.
Look even C.A. itself is a legacy of the British. We love being chartered rather than certified. Now this is my opinion, and u may argue against it. But see the British took Hong Kong on a 99 years lease. Then they developed their administravtive and commercial systems in Hong Kong. This coupled with enterprising spirits of Chinese. Wow! see what they have accomplished.
If our leaders were smart at the partition time, they should have made such an arrangement at the time of partition. We could be a sovereign country but let the British runs things for us. I tell u our history would have been different. But their were some big egos involved. See Pandit Nehru (being a hindu bania and Kashmiri Pandit) realized the advantage of letting Mountbetan be the Governor General of India for a while. U know that very act, got them the part of Kashmir that is with them today. If Mountbetan was not there, they could not have retained Kashmir.
There is another very important contribution of the British that is paying handsome dividends to India(and not Pakistan). Did anybody try to think why the software industry of india is concentrated in the South(Banglore,Hyderabad,Chennie etc.)
The roots of the answer lies in the ancient and modern history of India. If anybody noticed, India was ruled by many foreign forces for most of it history. The fact is that most of these rulers came from North West via the part which is Pakistan today. However, English were the only one that began their conquest of india from east.
East India Company started from southern part of the country. Their first major battle was in Sarangpatam with Tippu Sultan. So it was a East to West movement rather than vice versa. This gave south indians a 50 years leg up on rest of the country in English language and culture. Since these south indians claim to be the original indians anyway, many of them took Englishman religion and his culture to heart. Their committment to even Hindu religion was superficial at best. With no baggage to carry, they ran miles ahead of rest of india in adopting western civilization. The British knew the law of division of labour. So they recruited armies from Punjab, but baboos from Kalkatas. The famous names in indian civial service and legal fields came from south. South kept their advantage after partiion. They did not adopt hindi, instead concentrated on english. South universities produce engineers, lawyers, accountants etc. The North remained complacent in its majority. The young & bright opted for dead end civil service or moved the hell out of india. Therefore, when information technology became widespread, the south indians acquired it at break neck pace. Today, india is exporting 40% of world software. In fact other service jobs are moving to india. India is doing to the north america in service field what China is doing in the manufacturing field.

So u see we lost a great opportunity due to short sightedness of our leaders who did not have visions beyond their own lives.

And Maverick, this is an important topic (certainly more important than T-3's endings. Do u know how many of our citizens are employed in the railway system? How many villages and cities depend heavily on railways? Stop living in the fantasy world of Holly wood! If u love it that much try moving there. The nearest u will get to American Visa is perhaps a rude interview at one of its consulates! Gee!I wonder when we r going to set our priorities straight!!!)

dear pervaiz, indeed we have to PRIORITZE our priorities! but the truth is we always point out the PROBLEMS!, we have never tried to give solutions.

SO, u suggest, what being "proud pakistani" we cud do in this regard?

Hi Mav!
Now i was ready to give a slash and burn reply to ur posting, but then i read my friend Bowman's posting and that calmed me down. This friend of mine always has that "cooling effect" on me! So a more mellow answer is as follows
First of all, i think u did not even bother to read Waqas and my posting either carefully or did not understand what we are saying at all. The first could be the result of watching too many B-rated movies like T-3s(they shorten your attention span to minutes) and the second symptom points to a bigger problemlack of ability to comprehend.
My dear, in his posting, Waqas pointed "the problems" in first 8 lines and suggested the solutions in next 5 lines. In fact, the word
"suggestion" appears in line 12 of his posting.
My posting was not at all relating to problems of railways but to the historical perspective on this old institute. So if u have any ambition to be a successful accountant, here is what i "suggest"
1. Increase your attention span. A good start is to stop watching those third rate movies meant for empty brains.
2. Start improving ur comprehensive. Read things many times over if u don't get it first time.
3. It is better to remain silent and let others assume you are a fool, instead of saying something and remove their doubts.
4. You cann't impress people by throwing a lot of questions their way with an attitutde. I read a lot of your postings, they copy questions from text book without showing u have any understanding of the subject matter.
Now if you follow my above prescription, i assure you a successful career in accounting field, otherwise, be ready for becoming a glorified book-keeper for rest of your life

BTW Mav.....whatz wrong with the ending??? afterall they make sequeal after sequel of such movies for you so you keep stick to the screen....... the ending implies that they will have T4 and then T5 and so on....until Arnold drops dead or elected governer and then president of US...
